Well, I will seriously answer your question. Virtually all modern radar detectors detect laser. The problem is that in general if you get a laser alert, then most likely the officer has specifically targeted your car with his laser gun. Thus the radar detector more or less serves as a "ticket notifier" when it alerts to laser, yet this is not always the case. The better modern radar detectors can detect laser scatter off of a car ahead of you, but this only works if the laser beam which hit the car ahead of you had spread enough so that some of the laser beam actually scatters back to your car. During the past year I have had two laser alerts with my STi where it was a car ahead of me which was actually the vehicle being targeted. So it is possible for a radar detector to alert you to laser before your car is targeted. It just doesn't happen that often.

On the other hand, dedicated remote installed laser jammers generally are far more sensitive at detecting laser. Laser jammers can alert you to laser up to at least a half mile before you encounter the laser gun trap, but only if the laser gun is being aimed very close towards the general direction of your car. In other words, when the laser gun is being aimed "up the road" towards oncoming traffic. Closer in, laser jammers are very good at detecting laser regardless of where the laser gun is being aimed.

Firstly i should add that i dont live in any particluar "state" i come from a country called New Zealand. Where i am happy to proclaim it is perfectly legal to use a radar detector, and i believe it is also legal to use a laser jammer. but i have always preferred a stealth install... as the coppers attitude always changes when he see's a detector on your cars windscreen.

I dont think my vehicle will register for anyone in America, its an old '73 english car called a Ford Capri GXL, i believe america had a variant of this car called the "mercury" but they look very different... my cars still in the build stage, as i am installing a supercharged toyota lexus v8 into it.

Im in between bikes at the moment, but im in the market for an 08 cbr600rr, which i would like to set up with both a detector and a laser jammer, so i am pleased to hear of a combined system which requires only one install. so i will do a bit of research into the 9500ci unit.

So i have a bit of time on my hands to do some research to make sure i get the best possibly unit for the job at hand.

As for budgets, i am happy to consider anything to get a jammer/detector that can perform its job well, while also allowing for a stealth install without disfiguring my bike too much with massive receivers/transceivers bolted to the sides of my bike.

So if there are any recomendations for a radar detector/laser jammer - stealth install for a motorbike primarily, (and also a car), i would like to hear any other ideas, as the radar/laser industry is fairly quiet in New Zealand!

Personally from all the reading here at $1600 for the 9500ci, you can get 2 Laser Interceptor duals and almost an x50. I can't post links (yet) so here is a motorcycle with the LI cut and paste this after www youtube.com:80/watch?v=tndFL55CX4g&NR=1. Truspeed seems to be big concern and lack of support from some jammer companies. Please don't slap me for a link that my couple friends with bikes are seriously making them consider the LI for theirs. Otherwise search on laser interceptor motorcycle on there and you should find it.

Any red light camera's that you need to be concerned about?

But i really need a laser jamming unit that incorporates small transceiver units, but ultimately it will come down to the laser jammer which offers the best jamming capabilities.

You can't jam RLC that I know of but you can be aware of them to keep from doing something stupid and you'll know before you approach them. 9500ix has the gps and RLC database in it with downloads to update. Stand alone RLC go to cheetah.com though not sure how that would be on a bike. gpsangel is another basic RLC alert. Most of the heads that I've seen are pretty close in size and should fit under the front light area and on the rear with no issue. The bel sti will get you invisiblity to spectre rdd's if that is an issue. The rest of the group will not currently.
