My first radar detector was an original Escort I bought after seeing their display at Brainered Raceway (They sponsored the Showroom Stock SCCA racing series that was a support event to Trans Am). Afer that I had various Whistlers, Bells, and even a Passport 5000, but none of them compared to that original Escort (but it lacked KA). I bought a V1 in 2000 and was very very happy with it.
Last fall I upgraded it to a 1.8 via Valentines instant upgrade program. I'm not as happy with the 1.8 as it's bogey counter seems a little optimistic compared to my old, falses seem to be much worse and the J thing is more annoying than the falses. However I guess thats the price you pay to get POP protection.
This January the Ford dealership I work at became an Escort dealer so I bought a 9500ix (figured at the price I got I could resell it if I didn't like it and if I'm selling them I ought to know how to run them). So far I'm very happy with it. It's hard loosing the arrows after using them for 8 years, but I'm adjusting. The Expert meter wasn't as good as my 1.7's bogey counter, but its as good as my current V1's so I'd call that a wash. But the silence is excellent, when I put the V1 in its really annoying after using the IX. If I can manage to get completely used to the no arrows, I plan to sell my IX and buy a CI to have the ultimate in range.
