    Default New from IL

    Hey all!

New to the forum here and new to the 9500ix. I've been w/o a detector for years and just got the ix about a week ago. My job has me on the road all week and I decided that it was time to invest in one again, lets just say when I want to get home on fri......I want to get home.

Anyway, knowledge is power and ignorance is no excuse so I figured I better find out what improvements have been made in the area of speed detection and avoiding said detection before getting too carried away!!

Yeah, I had one last Friday in Indiana on I-65 between Indy and Chicago. I was running 80 to 85 (PSL was 70) and got a short Ka alert, maybe 5 to 10 seconds, backed down to 70 and went about another mile with nothing before I saw the LEO with a customer.

I did have POP enabled at the time and there was another car with a RD in it close by......IDK if it was simply a false or I actually caught him targeting the car that he was preoccupied with when I went by.

I'd like to think the 9500 picked him up but I can't rule out the potential false.
Either way, I was happy with the result, I slowed and someone else got to be the lucky one!

    Welcome yamaha1!

Turn off POP -- its not needed. Also, I actually do think that you did receive a brief Ka signal from the patrol car down the road. With POP turned on, a false alert would have produced a POP alert instead. It sounds like what you instead received was a weak Ka band alert that lasted for a few to several seconds? If so, you most likely really were detecting the LEO.

Welcome to the forums. The 9500ix is the one I am saving up for. I have never used any radar detector so it is nice hearing save stories and it makes me want to get one really bad.

MEM-TEK, thanks for the insight you've provided here!! Reading through posts on this site, I have since turned POP off to eliminate the potential for a false from it. I was unsure whether or not I would get only POP falses with it enabled or if they would show up on all bands.

Newkid, in response to your questions:

After the purchase of the 9500ix and hard wire cord, there's not much of a budget left here for a few weeks! Which sucks since from what I read on here, I'm in tough shape driving a white toyota 4-runner in a state where laser jammers are illegal!

Most of my driving is interstate/highway driving really, I live about 75miles outside Chicago and am frequently in Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids Michigan, Indianapolis IN, and Toledo, Columbus, and Dayton OH with random trips to Pittsburgh PA.

So far, I've encountered RLC's in Springfield, OH and Chicago. I'm always someplace new so the RLC and SC locations was a big selling point for me. Hopefully Escort stays on top of it!

And thanks to EVERYONE for the warm welcomes!!!
