    Default Newbie from Maine

    Hey All!

Just checking in. I thought I had a pretty good setup in my SVT Focus (Escort SR7 with ZR3's) until I came here! Universally derided it seems! Ouch! Although I know it's saved my butt more than once. And since I'm currently laid off (mechanical engineer - I was automotive!!), I'm not looking to upgrade real soon, but definitely enjoying the input on the site.

When I get working again (if?), I'll be looking at moving the SR7 to my wife's Mazdaspeed6 for trips and putting a 9500ci plus 4-head LI system in my car. For now... Maybe I'll add Veil and call it good. Not much laser yet in Maine (although I got tagged in Westbrook a few weeks ago), but I travel back and forth to NYC often, and there's a lot of laser down that route.

Yep. The ZR3's do work well with Veil. And The Veil Guy told me that even a barely visible extremely light coat of Veil is just as effective as heavier coats. Veil is a cheap solution for greatly improving the performance of the ZR3's.

Good to know that my setup, with Veil, isn't all that bad! Now I just have to get the Veil!!

I'm not sure what kind of laser guns they're using here. I haven't been lasered by the MSP, but I've read some who have on this forum. My "big find" recently was that they're now running a Mustang GT (black, IIRC) with i/o. My SR7 and brains saved me from that... twice. I was cruising along (mid 80's) in moderate traffic and had just swung out in the left lane around someone when my detector went off (Ka, IIRC) for a moment. Not being able to identify the location (maybe I really do need a V1?!), I slowed and slid back into the middle lane to figure it out. Less than a minute later, a pickup with MA plates slides past me on the left. Less than 100yds in front of me, he goes past the Mustang, which immediately slides in behind him and hits the lights. SR7 1, MSP 1, Mass driver -1. Almost the same thing happened a few weeks later, in the same area.

As for laser... I got hit by a local Westbrook cop on a little side road. I think he was just trying it out. It so surprised me, I never did get the jammer turned off. Hopefully he just figured he wasn't any good yet with the gun! :-)

Hey fellow Mainer! (I'm in Yarmouth)
The only place I've heard of (no jammer) laser being used is on the Turnpike, Augusta, Bath, and Portland.

Maine (thanks DougiesGoinDeep, hockey005, Retaliation, StlouisX50)

    Auburn: Ka
    Augusta: Laser
Bath: Laser (looked like PL III or Stalker...he was shooting in the rain and he shot me!)
    Brunswick: K, Ka
    Falmouth: Ka 35.5
    Kittery: Ka-band (Moving C/O) (updated 08/17/2008)
    Old Orchard Beach: Ka (35.5)
Portland: Ka, Laser, Vascar around Portland (approximately exit/milemarker 30-60 on I95)
State Police: K, Ka 34.7, Laser, have unmarked silver with black racing stripes mustang GT's (I believe there are 2 maybe 3) that use Ka
York: Ka Band in the Suburban, K-band in the Crown vics (updated 08/19/2008)
Keep an eye out for the two Mustangs and the new Chargers (2 or more).

Thanks for the thread link. I was wandering around looking for something like that!

Yeah, I was shocked to see the Westbrook cop standing by his car on the side of the road. I was coming down Stroudwater about to hit outer congress when there he was. As I said, I was so shocked, my daughter had to hit the mute button to kill the shifters for me, and that didn't happen until we were at him. My bad!

But trust me, the newest Mustang's have NO identifiers. No stripes. No nothing. Scary. At least Chargers kinda look like a cop car! :-)
