New 9500iX

Obviously if your 9500ix, upon power-up and being held outside your car's window, doesn't acquire a GPS lock within 1 minute, then something is wrong with its GPS. My 9500i acquires a GPS lock indoors when I power it up in my computer room.

Anyway, with all of the thousands of 9500i and 9500ix RDs sold, I think that its just sheer coincidence that at the moment we happen to have two forum members who may have defective 9500ix units.

Docsjd, have you tried doing a factory reset for your 9500ix? Momentary power spikes/drops can cause the stored firmware settings to get corrupted. Doing the factory reset forces the 9500ix to load the factory default settings from a separate and non-corruptible area of its memory. If that doesn't work, and if it won't acquire a GPS lock either outdoors or inside a top floor room of your house, then you should send it in. Lastly, where did you purchase your 9500ix? Was it purchased either direct from Escort or from one of their authorized dealers?

I bought the unit direct from Escort.

I've tried the factory reset a couple of times. The GPS indicator blinks for a while then the display says "GPS Error." I've also tried to connect to the detector tools in USB mode on the detector itself. Nothing.

I think it's strange two units would have problems too, especially when I haven't found anyone else with trouble connecting to the detector tools. Maybe a bad day at the factory?

His detector has more problems than just the falses. He can't connect it to detector tools, he never gets a GPS indicator, and he can't mark locations. It's clearly defective.

Thanks for all the help. I called Escort this morning and they were very cooperative in an exchange of the unit for a new one. I'm looking forward to the new unit and trying out all the bells and whistles on a fully functional RD.

I am pleased to report that Escort sent me an exchange on a one day turnaround. Another reason it pays to buy direct from Escort or from an authorized dealer. There is no reason to try to save a few bucks when dealing with this type of investment.

The unit seems to have none of the problems I previously encountered. It powered up correctly, searched and acquired GPS with ease, connects to detector tools with no problem, has no apparent problem marking locations. Now I can't wait to get it out on the road with confidence.

Next year, jammers.
