New member with a Valentine 1. Putting it in the car this afternoon to try it out. New to radar detectors, but may let my son use it since he's got 3 speeding tickets.

The V1 is an excellent RD, but it might be a little too noisy for the bay area for some people. You're definitely going to need to look at the V1 automute options to deal with the K band drones up there.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been scanning the forum for the wealth of information. Been driving around getting used to the signals on my V1. Not sure where some of the signals are coming from, but I did get my first real bogey warning (woohoo!, sorry newbie). CHP working in tandem just over a rise in the freeway.

Is there a glossary to explain some of the acronyms? I'm picking up on most of the them. One I haven't figured out is "J'd out".

J = Junk. Initially the V1 alerts to Ka, but very soon after the initial alert, the V1 determines another "leaky" radar detector is creating a false Ka indication. The V1 then displays a "J" with distinct alert tones.

I'm not sure if there is a glossary. Read the stickies in the V1 forum, and look for the thread called "J notification do it make a sound?" last updated 7-30-09

There is a glossary in the FAQ in the Laser Jammer section (see my signature for link). And in that glossary is a link to a more comprehensive, off-site glossary that is not specific to laser.
