Today was the first day in years that my Valentine One let me down. Got hit by VA State Police on 581 going into Roanoke. The detector never beeped, state patrolman said he got me on laser 68/55.

What was he using that the detector never went off? How do you defend against that?

In Virginia, you have the option to get a Bel STi/Escort Redliine, or remote units Bel STi-R/Escort 9500ci. All above are undetectable to the Spectre RDD (radar detector-detector) which is used in Virginia. Last time I was in VA, my Bel STi came in handy.

You need laser jammers to adequately protect against laser, although a V1 should usually alert you to laser (but it will alert after you've been hit i.e. too late)

He used laser to get your speed. A radar detector cannot provide sufficient protection against laser. The only sure defense is a laser jammer.

I got hit from the front, actually saw the car, but had no indication before or after. V1 has been great for years (must admit it is over 5 years old) so not the most up to date version. Will have to consider the Sti

How far away was the leo? It should say the range on the ticket. You must be good with hiding the v1.

Let us make this perfectly clear:

It does not matter what RD you run. They do not defend you against laser. Period. End of story. You need a laser jammer.

    The V1 didn't fail you.

The Sti would be better for VA one day you will run across a cop with a Spectre and he will give you a ticket for your RD. Don't expect better range or laser performance Radar detection range is about the same as the V1, on Laser V1 is better, but Laser detection on a RD doesn't really matter you need jammers look at the new Blinders, and the Laser Interceptor.

Yes a LJ would be needed for driving in VA and the Blinder M-47 is my recommendation. Don't forget the Bel STi too.
