I disagree with this statement. This seems to get repeated over and over again on this site, bet as the video that I posted last week shows, the M3 Belscorts' extra sensitivity can sometimes sniff out weak I/O shots that a less sensitive detector will miss. The RedLine has the exact same sensitivity as does my 9500ci.

It certainly came down to the two, V1 and RL. I'm going with the 'newest'. Anyway, I have a friend with a V1 that is two years old and wants to sell it cheap ($100), so I may end up with dual detectors. He started working from home and says he never uses it anymore...

Along with a portable CB radio and police scanner, I should be good to go.

On my return trip to Utah this evening I returned to the 'scene of the crime', and figured out what happened (with my ticket 2 weeks back). I checked my citation and noted the mile marker.

The Highway Patrol car was sitting on an on-ramp (I almost always check on-ramps, especially out in the desert where there is just 1 every 10 miles - oh well), so this guy was using radar on the backside of cars after going under the bridge. There were actually 2 units, as myself and the guy behind me both got snagged by the 2 separate units. (I hope I was not giving that guy a false sense of security - like "well, I am behind him, so HE will get the ticket").

Anyway, I am 100% convinced had I been equipped with a high end detector, it would have flagged way back before I even got to the danger zone.

If he was an on ramp it's most likely he was still running I/O since he'd see you before you were in target.

But with a high end detector, the I/O would have gone off way before he reached the danger zone, when it bounced off the guy 1 to 2 miles ahead... that is unless the road was completely void of all traffic.

Assuming he targeted a car 1-2 miles up and even then at that distance it's can be pretty iffy.

Yeah, I'm in your camp. I had a nearly exact episode happen just a few days ago, driving through open desert. Got a weak Ka hit, then silence for about 15 seconds, then a stronger return, but I had slowed by then. A rolling highway patrol unit checking oncoming traffic.

Instant on is not a big deal, if there is other traffic around. (I did get paranoid earlier in my trip, when I realized the next car in front of me was more than 3 miles ahead).
