Wink Old RD user, new V1 owner

Thanks to everyone who posts to this board - it's clearly the best source of user-focused information on traveler and road-warrior countermeasures.

I've used an older BEL (before they became Belscort) RD/LD, made for Radio Shack. I can't recall what made me start to think about changing over, but once the research began I developed a fascination for the technology, the conversations, and the controversy. Man, you guys (and gals?) know a lot.

Hoping to keep up on the info as technology progresses. Next thought is if I should have laser countermeasures...got a ticket years ago here but haven't been aware of laser otherwise (although the BEL probably wouldn't pick up a hit (didn't when I got the ticket), where the V1 probably would).

Thanks for your help so far!

Welcome aboard. For laser the V1 is great at laser detection too. However, you should not count on that to save you. Once you get a laser alert its too late and the alert is your pre-pull over notification. If laser is used in your area, you will need a jammer as a countermeasure. You can share the type of car you drive you will get placement suggestions.

Welcome to the forum. No radar detector including the V1 would've saved you from your laser encounter. You need to look into a laser jammer if you want protection from police laser.

I'm from the Tri-State area and drive around in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia. We seem to have a mix of K and Ka (constant-on and instant-on or QT, hard to tell which), and a whole lot of K door openers in every convenience store.

Thanks, Snoopy. Yep, I know it'll need to be a jammer. With a vehicle the size/shape of a Forester (1998), would a four-head device do, with two on each end, placed close to the headlights (front) and above the license plate (rear)? It isn't particularly large, about the footprint of the Camry of that time but taller, and the back end is largish and SUV-shaped.

    Thanks for the welcomes, guys!
