Hello from Portland OR

I am completely new to the world of radar detectors, but after my first speeding ticket I became very interested in taking measures to prevent future encounters with the law. I will hopefully be ordering my first detector in the next few days and I want to get all my facts right before I commit.

Right now i am trying to find about about radar detector use in Oregon and if there is anything special that i should know before I buy. If anyone knows of any threads about this already please feel free to message me or post them in this thread.

Yeah 26 on a Friday/Saturday night is deadly right around Sylvan/the zoo.

I live by L.O. so I'm used to crazy cops...

I am not sure about the laws in oregon concerning laser jammer. But for laser you will def need to get some jammers installed in your car. LI or the Blinders are some of the most used or recommended on the forum.No radar detector can protect you from laser. an alert on your detector means they have your speed unless u were very lucky and picked up a scatter.

As for detectors, i would suggest getting some higher end detectors like the valentine one, 9500ix, sti, sti-R, redline......you can make use of the bel/ escorts cash for clunkers program where you can get about 80$ back on a new detector if you trade in another detector. You can search on fleebay or craigslist for a cheap one. If money is the issue i suggest looking into the 8500 refurb units or the whistlers if quick triggers are an issue in your area.

I would suggest researching around in the forum before you make your choice.

my objective vote is for a V-1 -------
it's false economy, at this point, to go with an 'introductory' model
when I'm stuck with only the 9500i[it happens] driving both rural or in Portland, I really feel uninformed and disadvantaged

even with a jammer, speeding in Lake O is asking for a roadside chat
buy a jammer when you can

Welcome Hodness. You may also want to look into Laser Veil G4....a cheaper alternative to a jammer. V1 has very good laser sensitivty...etc....might help prevent that next laser ticket. If you have the money...get a laser jammer for the best laser protection. Good luck!

I plan on getting a V-1 asap, as for lasers I think I am leaning towards getting a jammer. Ive read a few things about the Blinder M27, is this something that you guys would recommend to use with the V-1? Or is is possible to use a cheaper alternative with similar results?

A month ago i tried to do a ride-along with a LO officer (to get a better understanding of their speed traps...) but my app was turned down due to lack of funding... Funny how they can buy 2 new bikes and a boat but I can't sit in the otherwise empty seat of a car for a few hours...
