Default Newbie w/a new toy: REDLINE...so TSR or SWS?

Just upgraded my 8500 X50 with a Redline and it seems to have the "TSR UPDATE" and I understand what TSR is for, but it seems that you can't have both the TSR and the SWS on at the same time. Anyone got the knowledge? Am I missing something or does it even really matter?
I do have a lot of the traffic drones where I live so I'll stick with the TSR if i can only have one.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

SWS is basically extinct, so it matters not.

The TSR on Redline works quite well. There is an overpass that I drive over every day to work, that has a K-band traffic flow gizmo. With TSR on, I never hear it. Off, yup. Yeah - SWS seems to have been an idea that never took flight. Whoever thought of that idea was smoking something.

Thanx guys for the info! But the geek in me wonders why you can't have both on at the same time.

Thanks again for info on SWS, it will remain turned off.

I see you are from Bay Area. Hwy 280 is crammed with the K-band speed monitors, spaced about 1 every mile or so. They are not always on, seems to be a time-of-day thing. However, you can just disable K-band outright on the freeways, because CHP only uses Ka.

So you know the pain. I'm down around Pacifica so HW 1. And it's got it's share of drones as well but I thought the San Mateo Sheriffs had K band... I am not at all sure about this, but I could have swore my X50 picked up some k band that I attributed to a Sheriffs car... but then there are so many drones that ...man I can't tell.

Last time I check those k-band drones run the same frequency as police K-band. Wouldn't it be stupid to have real police K-band frequencies filtered out?

True, but the alternative is to hear full-blast K band alerts about once a minute. It's a trade-off.

That is an alternative but isn't it just the same as turning K-band off?

    Definitely not.

    1) C/O K band will certainly still be detected.

    2) From my understanding, the TSR function only filters K band shots signals of a certain length. Any I/O shot of a longer duration will not be filtered out.

    3) The Escort rep claimed that the TSR software can tell the difference between these drones and police K band radar, but wouldn't say how. Take that as you wish.
