I travel between hickory (40 east bound) and 77 (south bound) towards mooresville. I have noticed that many of the city cops are in k band and I went by a trooper this morning that was also in k band. All x band alerts have been false thus far. I have yet to see it pickup any Ka band signals.

So for the most part, people are saying the x50 and v995 are the same unit with the x50 having a few more features....

These two units have slightly different feature sets which are roughly equivilent.

If that's the case I guess ill just stick with my v995 being I read escort has some quality issues that the bels don't.

Bel and Escort are the same company. The quality and reliability of these two units are basically identical.

I recently moved from southern California to north Carolina because of work. The state troopers out here are crazy!! I have never seen so many check points and people gettin pulled over for speeding maybe 5 - 10 over the limit. I have received my first 2 speeding tickets ever since I have been here. So I went and bought a Bell v995. I have had it for over a week now and even though I have passed many city cops and troopers.. The detector never went off. Now it did go off when I went by one of those signs that says how fast your going.. I don't know if this thing realy works all that well.

I drive most hwy and would like to know if o should keep this or should I take it back and get the escort 8500 x50? I can get the escort for about 30 bucks more. My main concern is distance of detection.

Welcome to the forum. Yep down in NC the laws are stern on speeding and the fines are serious, 15 over is reckless driving and a mandatory 30 day license suspension or anything over 80. NC sucks. The troopers in NC do use X, K, Ka, Instant On, Vascar, and Lidar. If they are using lidar you are toast with a radar detector. Check out the jammer section because NC State Highway Patrol loves using Lidar. They have a lot of unmarked vehicles as well. Where did you get your tickets in NC and where do you mainly travel?

NC sucks. It is the worst state. The #1 worst state to have a drivers license from. If you are driving out west with a NC drivers license and get a ticket for going 76 in a zone where the speed limit is 75, the NC DMV will suspend your license when they receive notice of the conviction, for only 1 over. I feel your pain, I am from NC and the Speed laws are beyond dumb, especially the part about being over 75 MPH and you can kiss your license goodbye, unless you get some lawyer/court help. I am stationed out here on the west coast so I understand the differences about peoples driving habits between the two states and the CHP being laid back compared to NC troopers (at least in my opinion). Out here on the west coast including Cali traveling I-5 I can roll at 90 MPH and not worry too much because heck, 60-70% of traffic rolls that fast (always travel with a rabbit for safe measure though). Don't get caught doing that in NC or bye bye driving privileges. Thats the worst part about having a NC driving license is driving out here in the west where the most of PSL are 70-75 MPH especially through Arizona/New Mexico/Cali area where it's really easy to put the pedal to the medal and mostly everybody is rolling fast. I had a good save (thanks to my Redline/V1) up in Flagstaff AZ where they are now using photo radar speed vans (I really hate the speed vans esp when I miss the speed enforcement zone sign) and if I wouldn't have gotten my truck back down to under the 10 MPH cushion I would been in a world of hurt.

Good luck in NC and take my advice either don't speed or don't go cheap on the counter measures.

Sorry to hear you have an NC license Akosikojak. Haha NC and VA love battling out the worst speeding laws in the US. That doesn't make NC or VA drivers better either, most I see suck ass at driving.

After all my going back n forth on what i wanted, I have decided to return the bel v995 and get the Redline... lol

I have used it and the v995 for a few days now, and on each alert.. the Redline picks it up sooo much sooner its not even funny. So all in all the v995 was nice, but the redline is a beast!

My Redline makes my M4 based RD's (9500ix,RX-65) look like toys.

I think your unit will be ok but i'd check trapster .com and see where they set up in that area. The 40/77 area is a known speed trap area trapster stays pretty up on set ups around there. Looks like you need toget to know a good lawyer if you have two marks on you already. I live up the road in Lenoir and run an Sti R and keep it below 80 cus that's the one they like to write. They love to open those chargers up and run you down. You might also look into a cb just to listen to the chatter on whats what from the 18 wheelers. Drive safe and enjoy the view.
