Greetings to the forum. Sorry to hear you also live in Utah.
I drive often up and down I-15 from SLC to Vegas and SLC to SF Bay Area.
Not many 'war' stories in SLC Metro area. I did recently see a UHP running LIDAR, but I think overall that's a rarity. Interstate desert driving in Utah requires a long-reaching sensitive detector. I ran with a Whistler for several years, and provides you moderate protection on the open road. (South on I-15 there are many small rolling hills, giving the UHP a lot of hiding places, just over a rise. A sensitive detector will sniff them out over a hill). West on I-80 is pretty flat and the Whistler should work fine.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm not sorry I live in Utah, I love it here. I do spend a lot of time between SLC and St George where I live part of the year. I just ordered a Escort Redline, will be here Monday. Will test it going to St George next week.

BTW If anyone wants to know how to scan Utah's 800 MHz Motorola trunked system, I'm the guy who knows this stuff inside-out. Utah is among the first group of states that were required to re-band to new 800 MHz frequencies, so not just any old scanner will do. PM me if you need info.

Do not run the RedLine and the Whistler together at the same time as they are likely to interfere with each other.

Redline will give you the best coverage for the trek up and down I-15. I rarely see UHP running instant-on, maybe 1 in 50 encounters. There's always enough traffic on that route that the Redline will pick up I/O. I'm guessing you'll double your alert distance from the Whistler.
