Looking to replace my Escort 8500

I've had my 8500 since '03. I has saved me countless times and is definitely money well spent! Unfortunately I've been getting many Service Required messages lately and I believe it's time to retire it. So I've been researching replacements and ended up here.

I'm pretty much sold on the V1 b/c of the arrows, but will continue my research. Fortunately a co-worker has an older V1 that he let me borrow to test out. I'm going to put it side-by-side with my 8500 and see how they compare. Should be fun!

Thanks for the tips! I would have never thought they would interfere with each other. I'll rethink my comparison strategy.

The V1 would be a VERY VERY nice up-grade.

After 3 years of owning a 8500 x50 and recently upgrading to a Redline, I have to say the difference is marginal (though the Redline does seem to do a bit better) in my day to day driving. For the money, it's still the best bargain IMO.

My V1 and 8500 X50 caused quite a bit of interference problems w/ea other.
Wouldn't advise with running both together in the ON mode if you will.

I can't speak to the quality of the V1. I upgraded from an 8500 (stupid service messages) to a Redline. I like it much better. I am currently running it in expert mode so i can see multiple signals. i can now see many signals that I thought were there as well as others I missed in my daily drive. I do like it. I stay with cruise control when driving long distances. I have a tendency to want to open the throttle up.

S7 8500s play pretty well with the V1 as far as detectors go, just need the proper spacing.

I know this because my GF has a refurb 8500 S7 and I run a V1, The V1 will be a step up and match or exceed the performance you are used to with the added piece of mind from the arrows, and the easier multi-frequency interface.

As with highend detectors that are viewed as investments and not purchases, both units can be sent off to the manufacturer and repaired and updated, often times good as new for less than $50. So hang on to that 8500 and get it fixed up so you'll at least have a backup.
