Introducing myself, my Audi A6, and my new V1

First, thank you to all who contribute your knowledge and experience on this forum.

My detector experience goes way back. I bought the original Fuzz Buster back around '78-'79 when I lived in Florida. I thought it was just too cool. I was immune to radar. Wrong.
But it did save me many times on I-75, gave some FHP a good laugh several times as they busted me with the big bulb all lit up...lol.
Moved up to the first Escort, the one about the size of a book, when I moved to Texas. It was much better. When it was stolen out of my 280ZX I replaced it with the Passport. Great improvement in size and much more user friendly. Ran that for many years.
Best passport story:
Cruising along in New Mexico on the Interstate (300 ZX Turbo) doing about 95-105mph
been driving like that for a couple hours no alarms at all. BAM! THE PASSPORT GOES FULL BLAST. I hit the brakes and surprise, the rear view mirror is full of Patrol Car. LOL busted good. The Cop was pretty cool too. He was sitting up on a Mesa and saw me roll by. He knew visually I was maching so he slipped up on me and lit me up! We both had to laugh. Me because I was out of state and no points issue, plus the fine was $24.00-cheapest speeding ticket ever, and I've had many.;-)
Moving California I kept my Texas license and plates for 2 years. Sweet. No worries about points, no state to state reporting. I proceeded to collect about 5 speeding tickets and just paid the fines. It did prove the utter uselessness of the Passport in California. Instant on and whatever bands/ tactics CHP were using negated the detector. I just bought a 911 and had Cali plates and license now. I threw it in a drawer and just slowed down or tried to run with Rabbits.
So why am I here now?
In January I bought an Audi A6. Nice comfortable conservative sedan. I live in a rural area near Lake Tahoe and have 15 miles of 2 lane curvy beautiful driving roads between my house and the Hwy. Passing zones are few. If you need them you take them. So here I am not in a particular hurry 3rd car back from a Pick-up doing 30mph in a 55 zone. really annoying but whatever. The 2 cars in front of me are both obviously pissed. The car right in front of me has had enough and blasts past the first car and PU crossing a double yellow up a hill. Now Car #1 has had enough and does the same. Not me, I like to speed but I don't cross double yellows. I drive this road everyday and there is a passing zone in 1/2 mile. I'll wait. The kid behind me in the WRX can't stand it and he goes. Now it's me and the creepy PU chugging up the steep hill. As the hill crests and begins down the other side the passing zone comes up. I casually begin to pass on the downhill, no cars behind me and no cars coming up the hill. Ok cool easy. The PU speeds up down hill, OK gravity right? I speed up and so does the PU. Bull**** on this! I pop the Tiptronic and fly around him well within the passing zone only to see a CHP begin up the hill. Are you F'n kidding me? Lights on busted. I pull into a Fire station lot even before I reach the CHP. As the CHP exits I see the biggest baddest looking Bull Dike of a bad attitude in uniform EVER! I'm toast. Writes me for the max. POS!
So I can't afford another encounter and here I land, on the RaderDetector.net forum.
After an hour or so of research I decide on the V1. I received it last week and it seems as advertised, however I have not had a Radar encounter yet, just shopping centers etc. The directional arrows and Bogie counter seem very effective.
I have the unit mounted just above the rear view mirror with the cord running along the headliner stuck in the sunroof cover and dropped behind the passenger headrest. Not ideal. Any suggestions from Audi owners would be most welcome.
My head is still on a Post-traumatic swivel, but I am feeling some calming effect from having the V1 on duty.
I'll update my impressions as I gain some experience.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your ticket. Most people that respond to this will suggest that you hardwire the V1 with the direct wire cord that comes with it. Just run it down the A-Pillar into the fuse box down below. Not only is it cleaner, but thieves and cops won't see the cord hanging down. Also, laser is used in northern California, your going to want to look into a laser jammer for your car.

Sorry to hear about your run in w/the CHP bulldyke, that's never a pleasant experience to go through.

You have a great RD w/the V1 it's a beast of an RD and also don't forget to read up on the Jammer section, Cali CHP is into the laser scene both North & South.

How weird to get in the car and look forward to CHP encounter..lol. I want my V1 to go off for real.
The Laser jammer concept is completely new to me. I have been doing some reading here and getting quite the education. Thanks to all yet again.
I understood the V1 to have good Laser detection, is this in general use insufficient?

LIDAR detection is pretty useless as once you detect it, they have your speed (99/100 times). I've only seen scatter once or twice in the 4 years of having the V1.
