Thread: Guy in Texas

    Default Guy in Texas

    I'm Aaron.
Lookin for some good advice and ideas on installation of radar detectors for my vehicle.
Currently have a Beltronics V955 radar which has failed me once so I'm lookin for something better because I have noticed it hasnt been doing a good job on picking up the newer radars and lasers in San Antonio, but perhaps my placement of my device may be the problem (Advise).

Im driving a 08 mazda3 sport right now.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer the window mounted devices so if you have any suggestions as to what device I should look into, I'm all ears.
Thinking about getting a Bel GX65..

No radar detector will save you from laser. Read up on the Laser Jammer FAQ in the Laser Jammer section of the forum. You will need to get a jammer if you are getting hit by it in San Antonio. The detector should be mounted high above the rearview mirror straight and level.

Alright thanks, ill look into getting one.
Radar detectors do detect if radar is being used though correct?
If it is directly targeted on my vehicle at a random time, a detector would be ineffective correct?

Radar detectors are effective when used correctly, I previously had a 955 and 965, they were my first radar detectors. Many police officers will use a technique called instant on where they will wait to use their radar unit until they find a car they think is speeding, and then they flip on the radar and measure the speed. Without a rabbit(someone running ahead of you) for the cop to hit first, a radar detector will not help you. If you keep a rabbit a decent distance in front of you, your detector should give you enough time to slow down before he hits you.

That is what I had figured and makes sense.
Are there systems that serve as a radar detector and a jammer out there that are installed together?

There are the Escort 9500ci and the Escort QI-45 which both come with ZR4s which are not a very high rated jammer. They just aren't powerful enough to cover most cars. Your best bet if you don't have a very large budget is to go for a Blinder or LI and keep your current radar detector. If you were looking at getting a new radar detector then your best bet to save you from Instant On is the Valentine One. www.Guysoflidar.com has some laser jammer tests posted on the site. They are an independent testing group and are the most reliable source for testing info. They also do radar detector tests as well so go ahead and look into some of their tests.

Consider getting a laser jammer. THe LI ones are supposed to be the best. As far as radar/laser detectors, the V1 is great...
