    Default Hello from KCMO

    Hello,

I discovered the forum about a week ago when I started looking into a V1 upgrade or service. I've been using the same unit since '99 (serial ends in 462) and the bogey counter is almost entirely dead. I've started seeing more lasers being used along my short commute and was wondering if it would be worth the additional expense to upgrade to a new unit over just a service. I'm still undecided, so any input would be appreciated. I have a short commute, but make frequent road trips.

Thanks all for the insight I've gleaned in the past week. Looking forward to future discussions.

    What is your upgrade cost?

If Laser is your primary threat, a laser jammer is your only solution.

If I went the upgrade route, it would be $189 plus shipping. Here's what VR says about my RD:

Upgrade Recommendation: While this version is not quite up to today’s V1 standard for Ka, it’s almost always good enough, and always better than detectors from other makers. X and K performance is excellent. Upgrading merely to improve radar performance is not cost effective, in my opinion, unless you’re concerned about the POP Mode operating in your area. Upgrading does bring other benefits, including our latest laser warning (front and rear), which outperforms the competitors by a wide margin, and POP Protection. Also, you'll get the new Euro Mode.

Is it a correct assumption that if my detector alerts me of laser, my speed has already been captured? I'll have to do some research into jammers. It's not a significant concern, but it would be nice to have piece of mind.

Yeah, like v1user said what version is it but since you had it since 99 if it where me I will just upgrade to the newest version but that's me and you will need a Laser Jammer for laser.
