Newbie in KC with need for advice!

Hello all!
I'm an ER Physician from Kansas City that just bought a 2011 Lexus IS F (ultrasonic blue mica). This thing is SUPER FAST and I tend to have a lead foot... I've had multiple speeding tickets over my 20 years of driving (never have used a RD), and have seen the light and want to improve my odds of avoiding a ticket in this beast! Over the last few days I've spent countless hours soaking up as much info as I can on various websites/forums, but still have some questions. I initially was leaning toward the escort 9500 ci, but the poor performance of the ZR4 laser shifters have me concerned. So, I think I've settled on the Beltronics STI-R Plus and the Laser Interceptor jammers. Unfortunately the sti-r plus is not currently available in North America, but should be available soon in Canada soon at least. BTW I called the Beltronics/Escort support line this am and the older lady answering questions gave me lots of INCORRECT info regarding the 9500 ci and sit-r plus. She tried to tell me that the "plus" meant that it came with laser shifters and told me it doesn't have GPS. (wrong on both!) Why can't they have somebody in CS that knows what they're talking about? Anyway, I've already ordered VEIL and the Laser Sheild, but am thinking about getting the escort 9500ix and use it until the sit-r plus becomes available. What do you guys think about the above?
Also, I am needing advice on: needing just the dual or do I need quad LI heads? Ideally I'd like to have the rear covered too, but the only place I would be able to mount the rear heads would be under the bottom of the rear bumper... (the trunk overhang in the license plate indention is unfortunately unusable because the space is taken up with: key access, lights x2, backup camera, and trunk lid opener button!) So, would the above location be too low to be of any benefit and just be money wasted, or would this be better than nothing? (I would post pics but am not allowed yet.)

Nice car and a great color! With regard to the trunk overhang, you will find you will likely never use the key access (key FOB and inside trunk release) and the LI Sensors are so small that they will likely not affect the amount of light illuminating your LP.

I think the combo of the STI-R+ and the LI is radical. You can greatly reduce your chances. Add the habit of following rabbits in the mix and your down to a very low probabilty of getting nabbed.

The STI-R and + are according to tests the best and most responsive to picking up Ka quick trigger threats and have top of the line range. Get to know what is used in the area to allow you to better plan for your equipment. The 9500ci is a great system but it has been tested to miss some Ka quick trigger shots. It has great range though and from what I've heard its real hot on K band. It also doesn't have band segmentation like the STI-R does which gives the STI a huge advantage. The STI-R has also very good ramp up, I've heard that CI doesn't have as good ramp up.

As unfair as it is to other manufacturers, most experienced enthusiasts in this forum confirm that using any other laser jammer other than the LI (Or Antilaser) would be a crapshoot for punchthroughs.

You definitely need a quad for front and rear protection. Cliff will give you excellent advice on placement as well.

Veil and a laser shield are a waste without a jammer. With the LI's they are probably not even necessary.

Many states have laws prohibiting plastic plate covers so check that out. In GA it's a mandatory trip to court and a $1000 fine for any plastic cover that interferes with red light cameras. Good luck explaining to the judge it's not for cameras but rather to defeat lidar!!!

Hey man good to hear you've done a bunch of preliminary research.

I actually just ordered my Laser Interceptor Dual and am excited for it. As to rear protection, I feel that rear laser shots are definitely more rare. And since you'd already pass the cop (and therefore likely have at least a chance to see him if you're looking around for cops while driving, as we all do) then I feel like for me at least, its worth the risk to leave the back exposed. However, that's just a cost-benefit analysis on my part. By all means, this leaves you open to still getting nailed with a rear laser shot.

I agree that the LI is the best way to go. Check out the Guys of Lidar (GOL) laser jammer test results. They conclude the same way. In the tables, the numbers in the boxes are the number of feet away from the laser gun that the speed was acquired. Obviously the higher the number the worse it is. JTG is the best, meaning that it jammed the gun all the way until the car reached the gun (or 100% of the way).


As to the detector's I'm not very knowledgeable with the ones you mentioned, but I know from reading this forum that they're great choices.

So I just now got home from picking up a 9500 ix to tide me over until the sti-r plus/LI Combo, and I took a 10 mile loop on the outskirts of town just to get a feel for it... Kid u not this thing probably already saved me a ticket... LOL! I was behind 2 slower vehicles on a paved country road with PSL of 50, and I was just getting ready to pass and "open her up" when it alerted Ka band for 2-3 seconds... Then nothing for about 20 seconds... Then another short alert. After another 20 or so seconds finally I start to make out a cruiser coming down the road. Just as I spied him, the alert became constant for approx. 20 sec. until shortly after he (sheriff) passed by. If I had of passed I'm guarantee I'd of been going near 80 for a few miles and would most likely be adding another ticket to my long list!!!
So where the short alerts because the officer using POP mode or instant on? ( are these the same thing?)
