If you're on a budget, check out the Escort 8500 refurbs for $150. It's light years ahead of those two detectors
LOL, if you stick with your current setup you will also kiss your drivers license goodbye !!!

    Welcome to the forum.
I agree with upstatedoc, I would recommend a used 8500 if you are on a budget or invest in a high end RD if you can. Buy something really good but buy only once. The 8500 and V1 were great RD when they came out and really stood the test of time. You are also able to update the V1 (my V1 is over 10 years old but I have updated the software and it is still among the best windshield units). Read up on the reviews before you make a final decision.

Thanks kindly for the friendly welcomes.

I can understand some dissapointing statistics but I was surprised by some of the vehement comments posted as responses. I appreciate passion, but mercy sakes, let's be civil. I'm sorry if I didn't meet standards of research for this detector that I received as a gift last Christmas, this gift was actually a surprise. Further, I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here when my intent was simply seeking some information. To those of you whom responded in the spirit of my questions, I thank you.
    All the best.

btw the X & K band Uniden I've been using here in Oregon is still working well. Many are unaware that even the Troopers here still use X band.

    Turbogus welcome aboard.

it takes some time to get used to how advice goes around here. If might seem like we're a little rough to a new person looking for information. But the truth is that we just dont waste time blowing smoke up people's ass by saying "hey your RD isnt all that bad, it's just not the best". The fact of the matter is that RMR is well known for producing miserable products that basically steal money out of your pocket and leave you with a false sense of security.

Even the owner of the forum knows the poor level of quality produced by RMR. If you look at the forum list you will see all the major RD manufacturers listed, except RMR. Heck even Cobra has a section here. And that is saying a lot that we consider Cobra to be a less deceiving company that RMR.

We are just trying to "rip the band-aid off" to get it over with quickly instead of slowing pulling it off and making the pain last.

It's easy to troll my post but I have no need for the best and brightest really. My driving style is steady and judicious as I do the utmost to avoid any trouble with the law. This, especially as I hold a CDL with several endorsements that I don't want to jeopardize. Not to mention the double fine law in Oregon, where X band is still widely used even by the Troopers. Using pack strategy when I'm on the freeways has served me well even when I couldn't use a RD due to company or local rules. I'm terribly sorry to those whom question wether this thread is real or not. I'm just not really a technophile that feels the need to upgrade my gear so often.
On the other hand when it comes to my bike or my Jeep I do lean towards upgrades no and then.
