I beg to differ. I lived in San Diego for three and a half years and saw lidar on the freeways down there exactly once. Bike cops use it in downtown SD, but really, how does one speed in downtown SD?

If you live in Riverside or Orange Counties, you need a laser jammer. If you live in SD and don't frequently travel up that way, I believe you're fine without. Like I said, three and a half years, and I saw it there once.

I'm referring to the Northern San Diego County area, where I have quite a few customers. I've seen CHP moto cops shooting laser at least a dozen times in the stretch between South Orange County and the 78. I've also seen Escondido PD shooting laser. The video below is me getting tagged by a CHP moto cop on the 5 northbound, just north of the 78.

Ah, yes, the San Onofre run. I've seen CHP up there with lidar plenty of times, but they were almost always north of the Border Patrol checkpoint and into Orange County. In fact, about the only time I saw them running lidar south of the checkpoint was one of my greatest rabbit saves ever. Got me out of a 20+ ticket.

Escondido does have lidar, but my understanding is that they only have a couple of guns, and there are only a couple of places they use them. Considering my source on that, I could be wrong (retired police officer who used to be a customer of mine, but he'd given me bad info in the past), but I've spent a lot of time on the roads in Escondido and never saw lidar in use, so he may be right as well.

I probably spent less time in Carlsbad than any other part of the county, and that includes Campo, Boulevard and Jacumba. I guess when you live in the southeast part of the county and you'd rather hike along a fence than a beach...all I can say to lidar in Carlsbad is, "Really? That sucks." Can't say it surprises me, though. That I-5 corridor as a whole seems to have a lot of lidar, especially up into Irvine, Santa Ana and southern LA.
