Default Just sold my Valentine Radar Detector and have a problem...

    Hello,

I recently sold my Valentine One to pay for other car mods. The radar was a few years old, so unsure of the version but it worked great and never gave me a problem.

The new owner says the Valentine one worked just fine the first day, however the second day of use the radar has thrown an "E" error code and doesn't work. So I'm stuck in a difficult situation. Any input? It's hard to take back a radar detector that worked 100% when I shipped it out.

Help would be much appreciated. I searched around and got nothing really definitive.

He admits it worked the first day so I don't see a problem. How do you know he didn't cause the problem by dropping it or getting it wet? He can send it into Valentine and for a minimal charge they will fix or tune it or you can give him his money back - shipping and do it yourself. I have heard and actually experienced this, Valentine will sometimes wave any charges to the original purchaser. I had sent in a old 1.7v, years ago that had K band issues and they did not charge me anything to fix.

    Agreed.

However if take it upon myself to return his money, I just lost my money and now have a non-functioning radar detector.

How do you know if you'll get your's back ? you may get a different serial # in return.
It's probably out of warranty I'm guessing.Did you Keep record of ser.# or not ?Act like it's still in your possession - then do this...
An option to consider is call Valentine Research for customer service, say it's displaying an E code on front panel display.
Would there be service charge to evaluate prob. or how much to repair before doing anything else.
If reasonable, tell buyer to send back to you,as original owner you get break on price for repair, but you will keep his money & return to him
after repair.Examine it carefully for any signs of damage first.
As it worked when he got it,who knows what he did or what happened & offer to split repair cost w/ him if he's will to split expense.
If Val. Res. sez it's burned out or abused tell the guy to eff-off & send back to him.
GET ESTIMATE FIRST before taking any action !!!

If you have the #SN of yours have him take pic of the unit he has ,if the numbers match tell him to return it.Then you return it to Valentine for repair and upgrade then resell it marked as upgraded unit and cover your costs. Although i think if the person who bought it wouldve sent it in for upgrade right after he turned it on and seen it lit up,lol. If for no other reason than to be sure its fully operational.

The serial #s do match up.

However upgrading the unit will cost $180 (lol) from Valentine...which is a joke. I don't see why I'd have to pay for repairs for a unit that was working when I shipped it out.

I personally can't imagine a good resolution to this problem.

but if you figure one out please post it.
