just found uncle's Cobra Trapshooter Ultra

I think this is from the mid/late 80s (He passed in '88?). It's called a "Cobra Trapshooter Ultra." I'm trying to find out if it's worth setting up, or whether it's now obselete. I'll post this in the general forum as well.

It won't do you much good today as it has no KA band, only X and K. It makes a nice conversation piece though.

Mostly Laser and Ka in use today. The old detectors will help you find automatic doors.

Can you suggest an affordable (under 75) unit that is a good starter piece for someone who doesn't know anything about the hobby?

Edit: It appears from other threads that the consensus is an Escort 8500. Is that correct.
