Newbie in TX would like suggestions on what to purchase

Live in Houston, large city but drive mostly on highway. I drive a work truck during the week but I am not concerned with that vehicle. I want something for my 250 which I hardly drive except for weekend or holidays. I think laser is common in tx so I was thinking of getting laser interceptor to start and then a detector.
