Cliff's official declaration, coming from the LI mother team, dated back to May 22 of this year ( ref:
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...w-usa-rep.html ).
If you've bought units from anyone other than Cliff, at that time, then you've gone off-map.
Also, his North American website has been up and functioning for several months now.....
As a true enthusiast and hobbyist, I would have imagined that you'd have obtained information from the proper sources....and am highly surprised that you did not know.

Regarding the CPU exchange.
As an automotive enthusiast, I'm well accustomed to the idea of "core cost."
You make a high-dollar-amount but fully refundable deposit, pay a little for the part, and then, after you've installed the new component, returned the old to the store for a refund of the deposit.
I see this the same way, and honestly, I don't see why you're complaining.
It's truly not so out-of-the-ordinary.
Also, if you're objecting to the $150 refundable deposit, Cliff has been more than willing to make exceptions in this case.
Both
noTe and I have asked him, publicly as well as privately, whether we can simply send in our old box, first, and avoid the need to submit the deposit, as we're both tight on cash.
Cliff has readily agreed, again both publicly and privately, to such.

I think you're getting all worked up over nothing.........
None of this is new. Other old-hand hobbyists like you - and even newcomers to our community - have known about this (and if you're not signed up at the LI Forums, please do so, as this information is clearly declared, there) for not days, but weeks.
It simply looks like you were out-of-the-loop and perhaps have been fed bad information, and are currently suffering some sort of knee-jerk reaction.
Don't worry, Cliff/LI is not going to let you down like that other Forum Vendor you've been having such a hard time with.
