LI install, switch wire

Just got my LI Quad, before even attempting to install I want to get some things straight.

For the install the wires supplied are not long enough, can I solder/electrical tape wire onto the ends and then run it to the proper location?

In the case of the switch I have to splice the wire in between and then run 3 more wires to the proper location. I am guesstimating about 5 feet of additional wire is needed to conceal the wires.

I assuming your talking about your head wires? or what wires? if it the ones from the heads, you can extend them by making more...

You might want to wait till Cliff chimes in before you do any modifying. He is the one who gives the warranty, after all

What car are you putting this in BTW? Or is the wire you want to extend the wires for the rear heads?

I should have been more specific. The power and ground wires are about 1 foot long from the connector. I need another 5 feet to route into fuse box and ground screw. I can just solder/electrical tape more wire on and it will be good right?

After close examination of the heads, looks like they will reach from my rear to the front, where the LI CPU will be mounted. If there is any trouble with the heads I am just going to purchase a coupler and slap that on. I just wanted to make sure I could extend the wires leading off the CPU connecter, especially the wires off the switch, as I need a few more feet.

Run over to radio shack and purchase couple of 3M connector(you can splice into the wire) with appropriate guage wires. Lot less headaches than soldering and prettier looking.

I know many installers that were fired for using those crappy Mickey Mouse connectors. Serves them right

If you have to use any kind of "connector" then use something like this.


The wires in the main harness (red, green, black, gray, etc) can be extended. If you need to know color codes for your car then you'll need to give us more information about what you're driving. Make sure you have a solid ground too.

You may either replace the entire run of wiring with the proper length you require including both the spade and pin connectors or you may splice in the additional lengths needed. If spicing, be sure to follow proper soldering techniques when doing so being careful to properly match your wires with the original locations of both the switch and the connector as well as properly seal your joint.

As to extending the sensor cables, DO NOT cut them. You may use the appropriate RJ11 Double Female Connector to extend the length so long as this is done within the cockpit of the car keeping this assembly away from the affects of the weather.

This will NOT void your Warranty!

Sounds good. Thanks. I will be posting some pics of the install soon. Maybe an "LI Install for Dummies by a dummie" guide. Im going to pick of some 12-15awg wire this afternoon and will solder onto the connector tonight. Tomorrow the install begins.

On a side note, I have my RD hard wired using one of those add a circuit's. I can use 2 items on one of those right, as in have my RD and my LI installed on the same add a circuit (10 amp fuse).

I disagree. My Laser Interceptors, Blinders, STi and External speakers are all using 3m wire splice clips for power and never had a problem with it.

OP is not talking about adding another circuit with the addacircuit module you're referring to.

As long as the fuse slot is not occupied by another circuit, you can add 2 circuits to the add-a-circuit module.

You do not need to use same amp fuse by the way. For my STi, I used speaker amp fuse slot which uses 20 amp and on the extra slot, I used 3amp fuse for the Sti. Sti hardwire kit also comes with inline fuse for the Sti so, amp will be ultimately regulated by the inline fuse and not the fuse in the add-a-circuit slot.
