Here in BC police can pull you over if they feel like it. Doesn't matter if they think you're using a laser jammer or not. The law passed so they could pull people over to see if they'd been drinking.

Yeah, if they want to pull you over, they can and will find reason to do so, whether it's a legit reason or not.

To answer your question in the context of is it possible, yes. Most jurisdictions allow a LEO to pull over a vehicle for speeding using his visual speed estimate as the probable cause for the stop. Whether or not a citation is issued is another story, but probable cause for the stop for speeding does not need to based on a Radar or Lidar speed reading.

That said, with a typical long range Lidar shot where your vehicle is off in the distance, combined with the LEO looking at your vehicle through the HUD of the Lidar unit, a visual speed estimate is difficult & probably not what the LEO is focused on doing anyway, just waiting for the Lidar gun to display a speed so he can write another citation.

This means if you use your countermeasure correctly & JTK as soon as possible, should let you slip by unnoticed.
There are always exceptions to the rules, but you will find this to be true more often than not.

In Illinois where we both happened to be from, laser jammers are illegal (yes, I know speeding is too...for the billionth time) and according to the law, police cannot pull you over solely on suspicion of the use of a jamming device.

Sec. 12-613. Possession and use of radar or laser jamming devices prohibited.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), a person may not operate or be in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is equipped with any instrument designed to interfere with microwaves or lasers at frequencies used by police radar for the purpose of monitoring vehicular speed.

(b) A person operating a motor vehicle who possesses within the vehicle a radar or laser jamming device that is contained in a locked opaque box or similar container, or that is not in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and that is not in operation, is not in violation of this Section. (c) Any person found guilty of violating this Section is guilty of a petty offense. A minimum fine of $50 shall be imposed for a first offense and a minimum fine of $100 for a second or subsequent offense.

(d) The radar or laser jamming device or mechanism shall be seized by the law enforcement officer at the time of the violation. This Section does not authorize the permanent forfeiture to the State of any radar or laser jamming device or mechanism. The device or mechanism shall be taken and held for the period when needed as evidence. When no longer needed for evidence, the defendant may petition the court for the return of the device or mechanism. The defendant, however, must prove to the court by a preponderance of the evidence that the device or mechanism will be used only for a legitimate and lawful purpose.

(d) A law enforcement officer may not stop or search any motor vehicle or the driver of any motor vehicle solely on the basis of a violation or suspected violation of this Section.

Thanks for quoting Illinois law, but was already aware of it. You seemed to miss the point of my post, which was a LEO can pull you over based on visual estimate of speed, didnt say anything about being pulled over for having a jammer. Thanks anyway.

It seems reasonable to me that Mythbusters do not want to show something that really works on their show (particularly if it allows speeding with impunity) or they could be accused of encouraging people to break the law.

They're very smart guys and I'm sure that they know about the real deal and made the decision not to include it.
