SO, I had to drive ~600 miles in the last 2 days and the LI was quiet for the entire trip except one for very impressive little incident earlier this evening.
But I want to state up front that I'm not sure whether this can really be called a save or not - you can be the judge.
So I am in a long straight rolling stretch of freeway with a lot of other cars around me and I am (of course) in the fast lane as usual doing around 80 (or just slightly under). It is a 65 zone and it is early evening with the light just starting to dim but still mostly daylight.
However on the other side of the freeway there are already lots of headlights shining right at me again.
I am fairly close behind another guy who like me is a fellow speed demon. All of a sudden I hear the LI give an alert and this time she says TRACY - ERR or something like that (if I do have a complaint about my LI unit it is that the ladies voice/speaker is not really clear - at least not to my ears. Is she Croatian or something?).
Anyway, I casually slow down and I hit the kill switch thinking to myself that it was probably the headlights on the other side of the freeway causing a false alarm just like last time. In slowing down I also force a few cars behind me to slow down (may have saved their b*tts too).
So I'm now doing around 65 thinking that there is no way that any LEO could have squeezed a laser beam between all this traffic and that it has to be just another silly false alarm when all of a sudden after 1/4-1/2 mile there is Mr. LEO sitting on the margin with his window open brandishing his phaser weapon.
Wow! I am VERY impressed with my LI unit if only for the warning! My Redline radar detector (which it has to be said detected many Ka radar traps elsewhere on this same trip) was silent this whole time.
I went another mile or two and turned on the LI again. I was grinning from ear to ear!
Of course I have no way of knowing whether I jammed his gun or not but he didn't come after me.
Based on past experience I think that I was probably borderline for a ticket. So who knows! But based on that warning I strongly suspect that this thing really works. Thank you Cliff!
Bob
