LI in the Tail Lights

I played around with my spare 4th head a little yesterday. I was curious if mounting it behind the rear window like a 3rd brake light would work. I did a couple runs as a baseline and my PLII could not get a reading with just the head over the plate. Then I put tape over the sensor above my plate and tested it with just the head behind the rear glass. About 50% of the time the PLII was getting a reading. My rear glass is not tinted. I was surprised that it cut the effectiveness that much. The glass does have a good angle to it so maybe that has something to do with it. Perhaps if the glass was perpendicular to the head the results would have been better. But for now I would not be inclined to trust heads behind any plastic or glass without extensive real world testing.

For now I'm going to go ahead and leave my 4th head in there as it certainly wont hurt anything. However, on the next car both heads will be mounted in the rear with nothing in front of the heads that could mess with the outgoing beams.

I wonder how it would work if you put them really low on the inside of your cars rear window. Since its a hatchback and the glass is almost flat it may work okay.

Remove the tint around the head and that may work okay.

Would be an ok idea, just the whole removing the tint would be kind of a deal breaker. Especially when I would have to sell the car :/ I went with directly above the license plate. I'm going to stealth it and post pics later.

It hasn't worked for anyone else who has tried it. Glass -- tinted or not -- is a deal breaker.
