I was also interested in a remote unit, but the antenna behind the grill part is what's hard for me to part from since it never really has a clear view of the road ahead..Have any of you gotten the same range on radar from this dual unit that you've gotten from a window unit?

The SRX has given me excellent performance mounted in the grill, you could argue that you get better distance coverage since there's not a windshield in front of the antenna. Anyhow, if you're really concerned about it you can mount the anteanna on top of your car

You should mount the radar reciever as high as possible if it will be free of obstructions. I kept my reciever in the grill beause the corvette's nose is so low it gives me some advantage sniffing out radar under trucks and semis. If I placed it up in the cab it would probably be obstructed by other vehicles.

Most cars and trucks you should place it in the cabin.

One of the things with jammer heads is that they do need a "clear view of the road" for best performance.

As such, it becomes a compromise between stealth/aesthetics/protection and performance.

Even with diode-based units, such as the AL and LPP, this remains true.

For those who live in jammer-legal areas, who are not concerned with aesthetics (or who are able to cut body-work and/or lighting units to house the heads in a "true-flush" manner), who do not have protruding front plates (in this instance, "best performance" often comes from matching the plane of the plate - which itself also allows the off-side unit the best-odds of peeking "over" the obstructing plate), and who are not concerned about theft and/or parking-lot damage, a final mounting solution that allows for maximum jamming performance can be sought-after.

However, such an open mounting position will be asethetically compromising as well as may leave the units vulnerable to theft and the occasional parking-lot bumper-rub or shopping-cart crash. Similarly, it will do nothing to help visually conceal the unit from enforcers, when it comes to the inevitable pull-over scenario.

At the same time, a more "integrated" exterior look often comes at the expense of having to either cut/re-mold/re-finish bodywork or lighting units for such custom installations - and even then, may still prove to be somewhat compromised in terms of performance.

OK, compartment is about 6.5" wide x 1" tall x 2.5" deep

^ Just saw this post now (server problems here at work).

I'll measure out my box as soon as I return home.

Purely from memory, though, you'll have more than enough space in that compartment for the box - there'll be room to-spare.

Again, I apologize for the late reply - had some emergent personal issues to attend to. ops:

The approximate measurements for the control unit are:

    - 4.5 inches wide
    - just over 0.5 inches tall
    - 1.75 inches deep

I could not get a more accurate measure as I was again pressed for time, and also, because of the mounting location of my unit.

It'll definitely fit in the space you've planned for it, and will have room to-spare.

TSI+WRX: Thank you so much, sounds like that will fit beautifully. Of course, given all the negative feedback I've seen on the ZR3 as far as it being old and outdated I'm kind of debating an M25 as well!! What do you think?

Like I say I have the 8500 x50 and I like the idea of integration

^ Again, no problem - think nothing of it, I'm simply glad I could help.

Indeed, the problem with the ZR3 is that without "enthusiast's mounting/setup," it can pose some rather disappointing PT figures - and that it truly is limited to the few enforcement hardware which it jams well, too.

You'll need to debate the pros and cons of integration, versus jamming ability, yourself.

I wish I could say what would be the right thing to do, but I truly believe that everyone's needs is personal and unique, and that this decision must be made on a personal basis.
