Default Laser at night on long road trips

My first major trip in my car was NY to St. Paul on my way out to school. I did it on a saturday night 9pm into a sunday (arrived at 12pm CST) in about 16 hours of driving 15 after the time difference i basically drove 90-105 the entire way and luckily did not get pulled over anywhere on 80, 90, or 94. I believe I encountered radar 2 times that night. Once in NJ around 10 and once in Ohio around 3am. I am about to invest in a Laser Jammer, but I was just curious (since I do most of my long trips at night) about laser's use/ effectiveness in the dark? Do more officers not use laser at night and only radar?

    jfriedman8,

    Welcome to the forum.

I think it all depends on where you are. I got hit with laser in Ohio a couple of months ago at night. About a year ago I also got hit with laser in Florida on an interstate.

In general, the range of police laser goes up in the evening which permits easier targeting from farther distances.

You may hear about a 1000-foot rule. This NJ finding really only applies to NJ and no other state. In Ohio, I was targeted at about 1600 feet initially (as well as by the FHP) so the 1000-foot rule doesn't really apply as a guideline in any state other than NJ.

There are some new police laser guns that will be soon making their way to the market where long-distance range will likely go up. This is a good thing potentially for products like laser jammers and Veil (especially Veil).

As laser continues to grow in popularity, I would expect its use at night to also increase in frequency as a consequence.

Good luck and again, welcome to our forum.

LIDAR's is just as effective at night as during the day, if not better.

Yep, I've encountered laser at night on FL interstates, too.
