Default LPP Installation on 350Z (Pics Included)

As promised...here are a few shots of my custom mounts and the installation. I have the Cheetah Wireless kit but still need to wire the AudioNode in my car so I don't need to use a power outlet. Unfortunately, finding a simple power source and ground has proven to be very difficult on this car. The wiring under the dash is nearly impossible to get to or understand unless you're an electrical engineer. There was a time when it would have taken me all of 10 minutes. Now I have to start a research project!

Anyway...here's the pics. The mount is made from Delrin. The four holes in the corners serve as a relief for the pocket and also where you insert the four mounting screws. There's a slot milled through the bottom (barely visible in photo) in case the sensor ever gets stuck inside.

    [/img]

This next shot shows the rear where the relief for the wire has been cut. The block needed a 14 degree angle milled to offset the mounting surface so the unit points straight ahead.

This shot shows the assembled unit. Note the nylon tipped set screw in the side of the block.

Here's a shot of the sensors installed. You may need to enlarge the picture to see them better. Note the Veil on my headlights...LaserShield on the plate.

Here's a closeup of one of the heads. The shape of the car causes an optical illusion. The heads look like they are pointing inward and down but are actually pointing straight and level.

The guy who made the mounts for me said he would do more for anyone interested. Of course, each car is different so they would need to be modified to taste. It would bring the price down a bit too as making two parts as I did got expensive...but hey...it's a 350Z!

It's the best install i have ever seen. I think you could make some money selling those derlin mounts they are far more practical then what most people use to mount the jammers.

    WELL DONE!

Thanks. Delrin has the look and feel of ceramic but is very strong, light weight, and cuts like butter when machining.

It's kind of difficult for me to tell from the pic, but how do you like the Veil on your Z. I was wondering whether or not I should get some (I have a Z as well, without xenon headlights).

    LPP install looks great though.

The Veil on my headlights has been on for 15 months and looks fine. It took me four tries with a poly brush to get it on without streaks and runs. It's very thin, almost like kerosene so you need a couple tries just to get used to its properties. I have stock HID headlights.

Last spring, I was driving through New York state and got lased coming over a hill. At the time all I had was the Veil and my V1 but it saved me. The LEO was parked perpendicular to the road, shooting out his side window. I would recommend it...just be prepared to do a couple practice runs (no pun intended) on one headlight.

If you decide to get the LPP, let me know and I can put you in contact with the guy who made my mounts. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion. I know the grill is different on the Z for earlier years, so you may need to modify the design to fit yours if it's not a 2006. Installing them took about an hour or so.

I used a Dremel tool with a cable extension so the drilling head could easily fit through the grill bars. Then I used a small router bit to open up a hole to pass the senser cable through. Screws on the passenger side were a challenge to put the washers and nuts on and took most of the time. I used a paint stirring stick with some masking tape turned inside out to hold each washer and a similar approach with a box end wrench for the nuts.

Why is the head sitting at an angle? Or is that just an illusion?

Beautiful install. The time, materials and research make a difference!

BTW, what part of MD are you from? I'd love to take a look at your setup.
