Default Are we missing the boat in lidar detection?

Why is it that I can clock cars all day long through my windshield yet my V1 never makes a sound & my blinders in the grill stay silent? The beam is being reflected to my gun & reading pop up instantly. Our counter measures are not alerting to these same reflections. Does our countermeasure detection suck that bad? The exception: When I shoot a reflective road sign through the windshield my Blinder & V1 are instantly triggered.

Do lidar guns not rely on reflected light waves going into the receiving lense?

Theory: Maybe lidar guns are "looking" at the brighter reflected light pattern on the target with their receiving lenses? We know our counter measures are waiting for a direct hit. Why aren't they "looking" for the beam too?

Because the optics and the magnifying glass in your gun are more than the ones form your counter-measures.... E.G. I am sure the lenses of your PL3 is similar to the one in a telescope...

My V1 goes nutzoid anytime I shoot laser inside the car. I don't even have to be shooting in it's general direction.

I noticed that this weekend when I was playing around with my laser range finder. I was shooting through my windshield and my V1 didn't go off unless the car was close or I hit a reflective street sign.

Now that I think about it I would think if it was the other way, being shot at, the V1 would have a better chance to pick up the signal. There would be more chance for scatter and the signal should be stronger. No?

. Any time I forget to turn it off first, I get an unexpected surprise

My v1 goes crazy when I shoot lidar inside the cabin.

The lidar gun has the advantage of knowing when to expect a return pulse, so it can ferret it out amongst the background light/noise better than a RD can. The filtering can thus be minimal on a gun.

The gun also has superior, more expensive optics.

The RD, on the other hand, doesn't know when it's going to be hit, so it has to be looking for weak pulses amongst all the ambient light, etc. Also, it has to filter out falses from reflections, etc. If an RD was designed to detect pulses the way a lidar gun does, it would be falsing all the time.

Lastly, the gun has to detect reflected pulses, while the RD only needs to detect a direct hit/scatter hit, which would be a stronger signal than a reflected pulse from another car.

My V1 is a 1.7 so it does have the older lidar hardware.

The 1.7 was tops in lidar detection for its time, but the 1.8 walks all over it. This could be why your V1 doesn't go nuts when you shoot lidar out your window. A 1.8 would.

That said, when I had a 1.7 it also falsed from Infinitis and Envoy brakelights. The upside was there weren't as many of those LCC-equipped Infinitis on the road back then.

Maybe the thread should simply be retitled "Won Hunglo is missing the boat in lidar detection"

1.7 and Blinders are not cutting it. If you had a 1.8 your V1 would be alerting.
