Default Moving to California, got a few decisions to make. Help?

I'm looking for some help making a few decisions about my radar/lidar protection. I'm new to the radar/lidar detector scene.
I currently live in Michigan. Recently, I got a speeding ticket in Ohio. It sucked. A lot.
Determined to minimize the chances of this happening again, I ordered (splurged on...) a Bel Sti-R Plus system to be installed in my 03 Toyota Prius. (has not been installed yet, though)
I thought I had ordered just the detector system, but when I opened the box, I found an additional package labeled "shifter pack". Hmmm...
These are, to my knowledge, illegal in northern California, where I will be moving to within the next month.

    I could either:
    A) Have the entire system installed, both the detector and the shifters. Obviously, this could be a problem if the shifters were detected. How problematic is this? How easily-detectable are laser shifters?
    B) Have only the detector system installed, but not the shifters. Obviously, this would leave me vulnerable to lidar. How much of a problem is this? Would it be worth it for me to invest in Laser Veil, in this case?
    C) Return the entire system, and just try to be constantly vigilant about my speed. This is easier said than done though; it's so easy to zone out and end up doing 83 in a 70mph zone. And it only takes a second to get nailed, as I did in Ohio a month ago.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions you might have.

Do not buy the Beltronics/Escort shifters. They are not worth it. If you want to jam, get a LI Quad. Oh, and how do you manage to speed anyway? I thought that the Prius is not a fast car?

    Return it.

Personally, I like a Valentine 1 / Laser Interceptor combination for countermeasures. (BTW-Cliff at Laser Interceptor is extraordinary at customer service and tops when it comes to answering any install questions!)

As for avoiding detection: Don't jam to gun. Let the LI do its work, slow to close to the posted speed, then just shut down the LI and have a nice day.
If ever questioned about the jammer heads mounted front/rear, remember that they are parking sensors.
BTW- I like the Prius.. but I'm saving many pennies for a Tesla

I agree with Dorcse for the most part, but the Stir + is a fabulous system. No complaints here. The ZR4 shifter does work very well. If anyone tells you other wise, they need to stop reading and start "USING" the product in the real world. The radar detection is absolutely fantastic as well.

Personally, I like the Bel Magnum/Escort Live/LI combination. I also use the ZR4 shifters on my daily driver and they have saved me every single time I have been hit with laser. They tend to false alarm from sunlight and Infiniti vehicles and such, while my LI's do not. But in the end, it's all up to what the user prefers. I am happy with all of my setups.

Better to have the protection on your Prius and not need it, than to have no protection on your Prius and end up with another ticket...

    <3 Tesla.

STI-r + is the best detector out there, but there are other much cheaper solutions that will provide at least comparable performance.

The ZR4 shifters are significantly worse than Laser Interceptor, however.

COPS in CA are lazy and stupid. If you got 2 eyes and a pulse you can see them way before they see you.
I would not worry about it.
Regarding whether it's legal or not, who cares? You're trying to cover up an illegal act (speeding) anyway. Do whatever it takes to get away and take no prisoners.

Just use the jam to kill tactic and you will be fine.
Get a laser alert, slow down and use the provided "kill switch" and the cop will be non the wiser.
