ZR4 on the way. How to cut grill?

So the wife and I added another car to our "fleet" that should get almost twice the gas milage of either of our other cars.

My wife only agreed to buy the jammer if I installed it.

So I think I need to cut my grill.


I was thinking of using a file. Anyone have a better idea that will render good-looking, yet effective, results?

I intend to mound the heads in the outside parts of of the "top" grill, near the headlights.

All done! I ended up using the cutting (drill) bit in my rotatry tool.

First I took the X50 Rev.5 out of my work van and hardwired it in th tC.



She hates radar detector "sounds" so I installed the hardwire kit with the flashing red light in plain view.




The ZR4 install was a pain in the @$$, just as I thought it would be. But my brother and I took our time and I think it turned out well. (He got stuck with getting the cables through the firewall and I got stuck with... everything else.

The front heads are not as "stealth" as I wanted but they don't draw too much attention.

I expected the rear shifter to be easy and mounting was. But getting the wire from the hatch to the car in a manner that wouldn't cause water problems was a pain.

I know LI is the "king of the hill", but I intend to add a 9500ix and be "done" with it. All for less than $1k (The wife hates falses and she's the one driving it most of the time.)

It's a small, dark car, so the poor little LED heads shouldn't have to work too hard. (I hope)

LOL I hear you, wife doesn't drive but she hates gadgets, so 9500CI for me and 'be done with it'... less falses = less her tripping out on sounds and whistles

Get a Dremel with a cut off wheel.

+1 to Dremel (-type tool).

If you're unfamiliar with such tools, then get some practice material to cut - you'll get the hang of it very fast, if you're at all mechanically inclined. Remember, let the speed of the tool do the work. The fiberglass-reinforced super-heavy-duty cutoff wheels may be too big in size for you to use, but I can't be sure, without seeing the grill first-hand.

Clean up the cut(s) with a small, fine file or some Emory-paper.

Also, I'm not sure how the aftermarket is for the Scion. I'd bet that it's pretty decent. You may be able to source an aftermarket grill off eBay or the like, or join one of their enthusiast communities and get a take-off OEM replacement from another member.

Dremels are the bomb, and it looks like it's a nice area to work with. If anything see if you can't pop that grill out.

Also, I'm not sure if you have noticed but if you got the CI you need to make a hole for the CI antenna as well.

Like the man said, pop the grill out, if at all possible.

That'll make it 10x easier to work with.
