I ran across this and was wondering what you guys think as far as reducing laser range?

It's been discussed before - probably won't do too much at all.....
To-date, the only covers that have been shown effective (by alpinestars) are either nearly opaque as-is, or have been treated by an IR-limiting agent such as VEIL. Or, of course, utilize the 3M Clear Duct-Tape technique.
If the covering film is not completely smooth, it could help mitigate detection, in as much as LaserShield would - but that kind of surface treatment would also negatively affect light output pattern/dispersion, and be of great negative impact on night-time driving safety.
what about smoke-tint?Originally Posted by TSi+WRX

What's special about VEIL is that it's specifically formulated/target to the IR spectrum - and unless you're willing to go so far as to be nearly truly opaque in terms of your light cover, the latter just won't have nearly as much of an impact as VEIL.
Not terribly effective. You need something that was specifically designed to deflect, absorb, or scatter infrared light. Or be completely opaque and really rough on the outside too... But there's an obvious issue with opaque headlight covers ;-)Originally Posted by Lucky225
can i put veil on steel/smoke tint headlights? will i be able to get it off?
Was the smoke tint applied as a film (like VHT Nightshades) or is it part of the glass/plastic? If it was a film, the Veil might stain the film or something. But if it's tinted glass/plastic, there should be no problem because you can always just dissolve it away with alcohol and/or ammonia.
its a thick film which is much thicker than vinyl. its like fruit roll ups.
It would likely stain the film. Of course, because the whole PURPOSE of the film is to darken the headlights, I don't think that would be a problem.
hmmmm i dont really need laser jammer stuff in local, so i'm thinking about putting veil on a seperate clear film and just tape it onto my film so it wont damage my film..
