    Default I have veil!!!

Yes, I got my Veil G4 in the mail today.

Rather interesting that none of the packaging changed...I thought the canister would boldly say "NEW Veil G4" or something, but alas, it's only the liquid magic that is changed.

So tomorrow I'm going to pick up an airbrush, and then I'm going to dissolve my old Veil and hopefully my headlights will be fresh and shiny underneath.

However, I need to know something about the instructions. The booklet has always said that Veil should not be applied within 24 hours of precipitation. Does that mean that the car cannot get wet, or that the air should not be humid from rain? I would like to wash my car first, but I don't know whether that will interfere. If it will interfere, then how long should I let the Veil cure before I wash the car?

I wonder if that means that your area is expecting rain possibly, so that the application should not get wet for 24 hrs after it is applied?

    Congrats on finally receiving it.

Yes, the [outer] packaging has not (yet) changed.

The interior container that actually holds G4, has. We are considering a slight redesign of the outer container, but we have not finalized the revised design, as yet, and we wanted to get G4 out to you guys that have been patiently waiting for a good while.

Rest assured, it's G4, and not G2. You will know this, of course, by its appearance and clarity.

Can't wait to see some of the PICs on your vehicles!

I really hope you guys find it to be the improvement, we had hoped.

    Congrats, guys!

I'm eagerly awaiting my canister's arrival, later today.

With the latest GOL results now known ( http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008...mmer-test.html - this is most impressive, BTW, The VEIL Guy, great job! I honestly took a gamble and purchased G4 without awaiting GOL results, trusting your word, and I'm glad I did), I honestly can hardly wait.

    ----

JDS, I don't know if The VEIL Guy got back to you on the humidity/precip. issue, but from my past experience, it's outright rain/car-washes that you should avoid.

I haven't had much issue with general humidity.

But then again, I'm up here - you're down there!!!!!!

Veil Guy - I never doubted you, and I don't much mind what the outer packaging looks like...but I want to know, can I wash my car before applying it? If not, how long after applying should I wait?

    TSi+WRX,

Thanks for your acknowledgment and trust: I really strive, in everything I/we do and how we do it, to work to earn/build that trust.

    On a personal note:

I've personally put a tremendous amount of investment of time (more than a decade and a half) and small fortune (out of my own pocket) into my "baby," out of love and passion (not money/profit), so I have always held myself and my staff to the highest levels in materials and craftsmanship (and expect them to do the same.)

When I sleep (which is rare), I want to know, for myself, that we will always strive to give it our best so that when I do sleep, I can do so, soundly. That's my measure.

I am a true believer in Indian and Asian philosophies of Zen, Kharma/Dharma, and Kaizen (改善) in all aspects of my life...Veil has obviously been a big part of that.

In so far as the washing question, it is my belief that Veil G4 actually has a shorter setting up time to absolutely harden, provided the weather (heat/humidty) is right. Since soap is used in a car wash (which can undermine the film if not given adequate time), I would give it 24 hours of good curing to before attempting it. The prep is also very important. Make sure your headlights do not have a polymer build-up of anything that could undermine its adhesion (aka: 3M Perfect-It).

I'd be interested to know what you find. Fortunately, there's plenty of Veil in the container so if it is too short, you can reapply (which, I know, can be a pain).

Please let me know how it turns out and we will know for the future.

We can try to do all the real-world testing and long-term studies (which we do), but ultimately its your experience(s) that I care about!

Good luck with Veil G4; I sincerely hope you find it is everything you had hoped/expected it would be!

    Quick update.

I went to Michael's to pick up an airbrush...I don't know anything about them, so I hope to get just a tiny bit of help and advice, and discovered the staff to be shockingly and disgustingly rude and unhelpful.

I couldn't figure out whether any of them would work with my compressor, or how they could be made to work, and I didn't want to buy a $180 compressor and then discover I didn't need it...so I just bought a $30 airbrush that came with an aerosol can of compressed propellant. It should be enough for a pair of headlights.

As for the headlights...I tried wiping them down with paper towels soaked in Goof Off...it seems to soften and dissolve the Veil well enough, but it seems to be doing a poor job of actually scrubbing the softened Veil off the surfaces. I do not know whether this is because the soaked paper towels are incredibly slick (they are), because the coating is so old, or because the acidic guts from the love bugs made it tougher to remove. They are known to stick to cars like epoxy, but I had hoped that I could dissolve the Veil underneath them and not have a problem. I am now starting to worry that they burnt right through the Veil, down to the headlight surface.

I'm going to try a scrubbing sponge, the kind with a slightly rougher surface. I think this will help lift the softened Veil much more effectively.

Oh, and just to top it all off...it's raining. I may have to run for a day or two with no Veil...scary stuff, huh?

    JDS,

I have always found household ammonia and rubbing alcohol together really melts Veil away, even after a very long time of adhesion...

Just wondering if you use a airbrush to apply veil do you have to mix it with anything or not..I see a couple people talk about using and airbrush and was thinking of using one my friend has.
