Veil over 3M "Clear Bra" product

I just bought an '06 Silver 350Z. The front bumper of these cars, particularly in Silver, might as well be a mirror. The prior owner had a 3M clear bra installed on the front bumper, as well as the headlights.

I'm wondering if Veil can be applied over the 3M product? I like the 3M because it helps reduce fading and scratching of the headlights, but not sure if the Veil would perform over the top of it.

Another question, is it worth even bothering on a Silver Z?

It is especially worth it on a silver car. Every little bit helps. The more vulnerable your car is, the more you need it.

Thanks again for the information. I wouldn't mind staining the film so much. After all, it is there to protect the headlights. I like the 3M product, so I'll have to see if I want to peel it off just to apply the Veil.

With the right jammer setup, you don't absolutely need Veil. It's always a great bet-hedger for those occasional freak breakthroughs, but not an absolute must, so long as you are protected.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't do it.

Note that the residual staining is rather splotchy and un-even. As a result, even if you are content to peel off the outer layer of VEIL material (and hope that what's impregnated the film will do the work of absorbing IR, which none of us knows if it will, or not), the end-result will still be far from cosmetically acceptable, IMveryHO.

There's synergy to be had - both between different "layers" of passive protection, as well as between passive and active devices/systems.

A good active jammer setup will virtually eliminate the need for ANY passive considerations, but this is a game of odds, and the deck is tremendously stacked in favor of "The House."

So yep, any bit, helps.

I plan on getting an LI in the the future. I like the idea of using Veil as well, for the reasons you mentioned, but I also really like having the protective film on my headlights (and the whole front of my car for that matter).

Thanks for the link. After reading it, I would agree. The outcome didn't look very good and while I think I could peel the film off, then clean the headlight, I would then have to either reapply Veil or re-install a film.

I have an idea, you want it on your headlights right? Why don't you Veil the headlights the put the clear bra on over it? Might work?

I plan on getting an LI in the the future. I like the idea of using Veil as well, for the reasons you mentioned, but I also really like having the protective film on my headlights (and the whole front of my car for that matter).

I'm in the same boat. I like Lamin-X for the protection it offers. And I really want the stealth that Veil offers. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a good medium between the two that both works and looks good.

Applying the Lamin-X or 3M over Veil doesn't seem to have been formally tested yet for effectiveness. On the surface, it sounds like the best of both worlds. But there is some intelligent speculation that the film may either diminish or defeat the stealth effects of Veil. Maybe WK446 can test that for us?

Actually, I may test it out myself soon. Take lidar shots at the naked headlight. Take lidar shots at the Veiled headlight. Take lidar shots at the Veiled headlight covered with Lamin-X. Then spreadsheet the results. This is a question that would benefit almost all of us to have a definitive answer.
