    Default Veil on License Plate

Do any of you guys put veil on your license plates?

I searched and searched and couldn't seem to come up with a a thread about this.

I know a popular route is to get a fiberglass plate from the Crazy Greek (or whatever his name is) as it is way better then the California issue light reflector but is that a better route then applying veil to the plate if you can apply it at all?

The best route is to simply get a decent jammer. With a decent jammer, the plate doesn't matter. Without one, nothing on your plate is going to save you.

Ya i am going for a LI kit pretty soon i was just thinking of the vehicle i am going to put it on and how it is more prone to giving the gun an easier read due to the boxy-ness which made me think of going with a quad LI kit.

Then that's when i thought of veiling the plate to allow me to save a little bit of dough by going with a dual setup instead yet hoping to have the same efficiency and or effect.

Well, then you definitely have a point there. A Veiled plate would give you enough of an edge to raise your heads up closer to your headlights and roofline, where the real risk lies.

DrCoke has a thread here showing how he Veiled his plate. I have seen it in person, and it looks awesome! It looks just like a smoked cover, unless you are literally looking right at it from arms length or less. That's kind of risky though. Veiling a Laser Shield or regular clear plate cover are probably less risky options in most cases. Just be aware that anything on or over your plate is probable cause to pull you over, hassle you, ticket you, or even jail you in many locations.

Not much to add, well thought out. But i have used 3M clear duct tape and it seems to work quite well.

So it is sounding that getting the fiberglass replica plate from the "Mad Greek" is the way to go. Its legal and approved by the state and it reduces the reflectiveness by 90%.

I am going to have to look into this...

My veil plate looks like a smoke cover but got me pulled over 5-6 times in under 2 years. Leo mention nothing about the plate, they all pull me over because they couldn't read it at night since the taglight cant reflect off the plate. I veiled the plate to help my rear ZR4. I have since sold that car and my new ride has a new non veil plate with LI-Quad. Trust me, LI does not need any help. Veiling plate to me is just asking for troubles.

The question was about Veiling a plate, not a question about LI's.

I think EO4 has a good take on this.

I would not recommend directly Veiling an authentic retro-reflective painted plate as Veil will most certainly leach into its substrate (which is not good).

As EO4 stated a reproduced plate WITHOUT the retro-reflective paint will make a huge impact (to the better) and if you can get away with a laser shield (on top of that) then I think you will be in very good shape.

Such a solution would likely run no more than $50.

I'd be interested to learn how it worked out for you.

I think its a good thing, if your state allows it, even if your jammers JTG/JFG. You can't have too much protection. Georgia doesn't allow it but I found 1 very thin coat is next to impossible to know its there unless you literally just did half the plate.
