Default Virginia Adopted the K band drones...

Well if you do your travel now in virginia, they have installed the K band drones along the I-95 150 and 160 mile marker area HOV facing north and south including I-395.

They fire in about 2-3 sec bursts cycling every 45-60sec. They are also powered by Solar.

What is bad, they have LEOs, usually locals, that operate their K band units. This is were multi threat ( Escort and Valentine Only) could save you.

They have been there for awhile now. I remember encountering those 2 years ago. I think they are some type of traffic monitoring tool, not drones. Drones are usually constant on.

Philly has a bunch of those speed monitoring things over it's highways... news stations use them to report traffic speeds in different stretches of road, etc.

I agree that it sounds like a traffic monitoring system.

A network of drones in a state where RD's are illegal doesn't make much sense.

I have been told they are traffic monitoring sys, but don't for sure what they are. I know they are not drones, because they seem to be pointed down and are not constant on. Every drone I have seen has the radar antenna mounted level and it is constant on.

So the drones are not ticket generators right? I have read that they are used to warn people with RD so they will slow down. The ones i've encountered along 95 would cycle but now when i pass them they are constant and I receive the K signal for about 2.5 miles.

Not drones, but as stealth has said, part of the traffic monitoring system. They do monitor speed of the traffic but not of individual vehicles. It is used to alert the traffic center in Arlington of a potential problem with traffic and allow them to move the cameras for a better view and then get assistance on the way before the problem gets worse. They are going to put up additional units in the more problem prone areas. The new units are quicker to see change of speed and cheaper to maintain than the ones that have been built in the pavement for years.

I have to living in a state where RD's are illegal is a mixed blessing. By them being illegal, the presedent is that most LEO's leave their radar on all the time. The good part about the RD law is that it is just a fine. I got nailed late at night in an instant on situation. The sheriff was pretty cool about it though (I was doing 76 in a 55). After a 10 minute conversation about radar detectors, he let me go with just an RD ticket. He said the V1 was a good looking unit.

I drive thru VA fairly often and so does a co-worker who said LEO's can take a RD if they see it in your car. Is it true that LEO's can confiscate a RD if they see it?
