    Default Moving radar in PA?

I'm not trying to sound like an alarmist here but, twice this week I've encountered what appears to be moving radar in PA. The first encounter was on Rte. 80 between the two Bloomsburg exits. (Rte.42 and Lightstreet) My X50 sounded an IO type alert and displayed 24.158. I did not think to much of it until the signal went rapidly to full alert again. I decided to slow down at this point as I was going 80. I then spotted an unmarked blue CVP with tinted windows.(He was going westbound, I was EB) Could not see the antenna inside the car and I did not see the barrel type unit on the side window.
Today's run in was on I81 NB between Harford and Gibson. Again I was motoring briskly alon when suddenly Val goes full alert on KA. This time I really slowed down to the psl. The signal faded then suddenly went full alert again. I spotted an unmarked white CVP (SB) and this time I saw an antenna mounted center of the dash. The strange thing is that the face of the antenna was black instead of the usual (for my area anyway) white face. Incidentally, Val correctly tracked the cruiser as it passed by. Any of you PA guys come across any of this? Sorry to be so long winded, but this could become an "inconvience". Scott

PA Law states that it has to be stationary run K-band radar. It can be run instant-on or Constant-on by State police

Last real experience i have seen in PA was a trooper hiding behind a bridge wall shooting the back of cars going away from him instant-on K-band

People say they have run into Ka in PA but i haven't yet on 380, 80 or 81

On the west side of the state and central I have been hit by K-band as far as I can recall since I got here 5 years ago. X-band for speed signs. They like instant on around my main travel to work (rt422) around the Butler to Kittanning area.

I have noticed that sometimes troopers leave their radar on while traveling, but this is usually when they are doing 75+. I got my x50 about 2 weeks before xmas and haven't seen many cops shooting recently.

Oh for what its worth they also use vascar here on 422 (watch for those lines!), from the air and from cruiser. Last year a friend got hit from the air!

Isn't PA the king of Vascar state? I thought it was?

    Default Vascar

    Proud,
PA is the king of VASCAR! Nearly every municipality uses it as well as the stateys. I got my only speeding ticket with VASCAR. I was pissed because I didn't see the cop anywhere in sight so I went to court with a lawyer. The cop didn't show and the ticket got dismissed. Still cost me $100.00 though. Keep thy eyes peeled for white stripes, traffic cones in "strange" locations etc.

You were within 15 miles of the NY border, did you positively ID the car's tag? It is possible it was a NY LEO traveling in PA for official business, etc.

I regularly scan state legislative websites looking for changes in enforcement policy, haven't seen anything regarding the use of moving RADAR.

I haven't seen a VASCAR unit in a PSP vehicle for over 20 (maybe even 30) years. From whom did you get your VASCAR citation?

I think FLORIDA is big on vascar i dont know about king though. I got nailed on I75 with Airplane 91 in 70 PSL... that time i wasn't aware of 1/4 lines on the road and "Speed enforced by aircraft" was only a scare tactic for me until i got caught along with who knows how many others. Now everytime i drive pass those lines I always look up and i never go above +10 psl!!! To this day (that was 2 years ago) I have not seen one airplane speed trap yet. Im beginning to think extreme unluckyness took place.

I can confirm that they're using (unmarked cars with) Ka band in PA (especially near the PA/NY border) and as the TS said, they go full alert, drop down and then full alert again.

Do you know what KA frequency/gun they use?

    Default PA Cops

I live in PA. The law says only state cops can issue radar tickets and they must be stationary.

I have seen cops turn their radar on when moving though. One time I was near the cop and I think he saw my radar detector and he was just trying to mess with me,

They can turn their radar on while they are moving, the just can't issue any tickets.
