Default Highway 287 NJ radar question

Ok, I attend college at Rutgers (Exit 9 on 287) and live in Ringwood NJ (Exit 57). I travel route 287 twice round trip every week. I still can not figure out what the state troopers are doing. Sometimes they will be on the shoulder using X band radar, and sometimes they will be using laser, but I cant emphasize how much I see them sitting in a median and never get any warning from my V1. I would assume they aren't using radar, but what are they using? Are they not clocking people? I must pass on average 2-5 cops sitting in the median not using radar or laser on my trip. I usually only see them in the shoulder using X at night. Any ideas? Suggestions?

They could be selectively using instant-on, maybe when they see a car that looks like it's speeding.

They could be using laser and your detector missed it (perhaps selectively as well, as in not shooting every car).

Or they could just be watching traffic, doing paperwork, munching on doughnuts, etc.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Yeah. I've noticed this too on I-287 and NJTPK. They are definitely very selective. This makes them very very deadly. I've gotten a few Kband IO's heading north before the I-78 and I-287 split.

Hello fellow Rutgers student! What campus you at?

I travel the same path to RU.. but I get on 287 around exit 12/15.

I see NJ Staties sometimes just sittin around targeting no one.. sometimes its just a mindset for them to force people to slow down.

    Default have heard

Have heard that "some" of the NJ LEOS will be getting rid of those x band guns in the near future. I doubt all of them will be gotten rid of though.

Blow past at 120, I'll bet a box of donuts they 'flip it on!"
Most[all?] states, they are supposed to visually ID a speeding vehicle, THEN clock its speed, so it sounds as if they are playing by the rules.
