Seems the populace of Houstonians on this board is small... :?

Anyway, just FYI, I spotted a slick-top Charger driven by a Bayou Vista LEO on 45 as I was coming back from Galveston on Saturday. Bayou Vista, in case you don't know, is essentially where Highway 146 intersects with 45.

It was a pretty sweet car but it was definitely one that, if you weren't REALLY paying attention, you'd overlook. The PSL at that time was 55 and I was using a couple other cars going 70-75 as rabbits. All of the sudden I see one of the cars slam on breaks and I started looking around for a LEO, only to find that he was dead in front of me. I really couldn't tell that he was a LEO until I get right on top of him and read the small "Police" on his trunk lid. My V1 didn't pick anything up and he didn't stop anyone so perhaps he was on his way somewhere else.

I didn't get any photos, unfortunately, but be aware when you're going that way...

Great eyes! I didn't know Bayou vista was running a Charger. Thanks for the heads up. If you get a chance, try to determine a band and frequency for Bayou Vista radar. I would like to konw for my book.

I don't get down to Galveston too, too often but I'll be sure to keep an eye out the next time I do.

I guess if this is the Houston area thread we can offer items to share here. I have a stalker ATR moving hand held that I can offer for discrete testing of Ka detectors. This gun will flat out amaze you once you get good with it. I can't post much about the gun or this post will get deleted like the others.

Anyone got a lidar unit for testing in the area?

The last X I picked up in Houston was a Constable in North Houston if I remember correctly. It has been over a year now & I do not live in that immediate area. Do not remember the Precinct. Other X band I have found in TX: One X band gun exist in Broadus TX area & found one in Minneola TX area a few months ago. (Minneola TX - Clocked at 4:00 AM with IO X band, stationary unit on HWY 69 in the construction zone. Could not see the markings on the car.)

Yesterday I ran across a Harris County Precinct 5 Constable in a Camaro on Beltway 8. Well marked with a lightbar on top. It was pretty sharp looking actually.

I will have to look out for that LEO Charger on my way to work in Galveston. I can tell yall what band he's using but not the frequency.

I saw that Camaro a few weeks ago. My jaw dropped because I didn't think the Camaros were still in rotation. Always a stunning patrol car. I like the Chargers but none are as nice as those Mustangs. SWEET!
Would love to see a Stang in DPS dress but if what my DPS buddy says is true if it were to happen it would be the six banger. :cry:

Six Banger!! That's a shame. A Mustang in DPS dress would look sharp. I know the six in the Mustangs are now 4.0 liters instead of the 3.8's. How many horses are the 4.0's putting out now, you know?

To add my 2c, I have run into quite a number of K LEOs in Houston, including a handheld one.

One of them was in my first days of the X50, with its silly automute (now off). Makes you ignore it when there are lots of potential stationary radar sources, BUT it doesn't remind you if/when it reaches full blast (and in expert display mode you don't really notice it).

My previous whistler was way better in this regard. It reduced its volume when signal level was decreasing (passed threat). And the city automute was actually usable. Then again, it falsed much much more.

On the interstates, my experience has been mostly Ka.

HPD's traffic division gets the new RADAR and LIDAR units. The patrol officers check RADAR's and LIDAR units out if they want to. They are usually the older units. So you will run into K band from HPD.
