I was getting a Ka reading strong then I got POP, then back to Ka again.. Really suprised me. I keep posting subjects about kentucky I know but no-one else has, so i'm trying to help what few kentuckians are on here... out! 8)

Be careful - the x50 will "false" POP very readily and often....Trust me, I know.
My local area is filled with Cobra (detector) users, and my x50 (Rev5) *loves* to alert me to these users via the POP alert. That's one issue, but another is that the POP alert may simply be falses due to Intant-On K/Ka.
The question of POP is two-fold:
First, is there POP-enabled hardware in your area.
And second, more importantly, is POP actually being actively USED. Just because the hardware is available doesn't mean that it's used. There's proof of this even locally where I live - a near-by township owns the equipment and their officers are trained for it, but, thanks to the ride-along that a fellow Forum member took, it was noted that they confessed to simply never bothering to use that function.
Unfortunately, the only way to really know whether the second concern is valid would be to verify, through a primary source, whether or not POP is in-use. This can understandably be difficult.
[ Note that while having a tandem-vehicle, dual detector scenario (i.e. one car with POP-off, other with POP-on) would rule-out false positives, it cannot conclusively rule-out a false negative (i.e. neither detector reporting POP, but POP actually being used) - the only way to truly ascertain whether POP is in use is to visually identify the equipment, then have a confession from its operator whether POP was used at the moment it was detected. ]
As-such, you have to evaluate your risk-benefit ratio.
With my x50 Rev5, I do get occasional POP falses. They're annoying, and, to an extent, they also make me somewhat desensitized to the alerts. The former is bad and the latter even worse, as it erodes my trust/confidence in the detector.
I used to keep my POP-detection "on" because there are surrounding locales with POP-enabled equipment in-circulation. I unfortunately cannot rule-out, positively, their use, so I'd taken it upon myself to be more cautions - although at the time, I'd always debated the true value of my practice, given the persistent and constant falses.
I now run with POP-detection disabled.
Why?
I judge that chances of me actually catching POP, even if it *is* being used, based on GOL testing, is, I think, rather slim.
This, combined with the fact that I drive in an increasing densely urban area where POP falsing is an ever-present and persistent problem has made me think twice about enabling POP (which I'd done for nearly 2 and 1/2 years before).
To me, the constant falsing did nothing but to make me start to "lose faith" in my detector - and that's *never* a good thing.
I'm not saying that you should or should not run POP-detection on your x50.
I'm just trying to point out both sides of the problem - and hope that you will make an informed decision based on the facts of the situation. There's pros and cons either way, you've simply got to evaluate your unique situation, and see what works best for you.

i believe he experienced the blip of POP in KA band... especially when it goes from KA to POP then back to KA..... otherwise the cop wouldn be running KA then flip it to POP since he already is detecting speeds... POP is OFF on my X50 but i leave it on, on the V1 as there is no difference is K/KA band POP or regular K/KA band readings

It could be this, or it could be a true non-POP false. There's unfortunatley just no way to really tell, short of getting an actual confirmation from the enforcer that indeed, the detector picked up POP when he utilized POP.
This is why I'm mentioning both possibilities and presenting all scenarios, including citing the GOL tests (and how poorly the x50 did in terms of POP reception) - and letting the end-user decide whether or not to enable POP, themselves.
Each of us has to weigh the issue based on our own usage and threat concerns.![]()

Thanks for the class guys! I feel like i've just went to school about POP. lol
I knew that Cobra's false it though, I've had a cobra in a friends truck in the school parking lot. He starts up his truck (his cigarette lighter comes on as his key does) and I get full blast Ka. Their was a kid with a whistler wanting to trade with him, so I instantly said do it do it. He traded, I was like someone got smoked 8) At least it worked out the best for my friend thoughSometimes when he had his cobra I would get pop alot, and if ppl are revving their vehicles up beside me also
I had exactly the same weird experience here (Houston, TX) yesterday :shock:Originally Posted by justinkk2005

Hello,
I have been talking to someone at the KSP garage for the last few months. I asked him last week what they used for radar. Answer was Stalker Dual Ka
When I talk to him again in a few weeks, I ask if they are using any MPH Bee III for you guys.
If I have time on my trip down to TN, I'm stopping at PB Electronics and if I have time, might stop by and see them at the KSP shop in Frankfort near the airport. I have a standing invite to stop by and see the place.
Take care,
Spin
Thanks Spin and good looking out too.....Keep us updatedOriginally Posted by Spinner55
