    Default Laser and NJ

I wanted to know if NJ officially has laser or not? I was driving on the NJ Turnpike a few months ago at night and all of the sudden my radar went off with a laser alert, I never got a laser hit before this. The hit was near Exit 4 by the way. I was curious if it is a test program or is it being used. For the most part NJ state troopers still use X band, but I know this will change.

Laser has been in NJ for a pretty long time. Check the stickies to find out which county's have them.

I sorta wonder why State Troopers in NJ still use X-band.

Laser is mostly found north of I-195, along w/the new Stalker units (and any BEE-III's floating around). In South Jersey, such as Exit 4 (Rt. 73) area, it's mostly just the K-55's. Being from South Jersey, I've never (well maybe once) seen laser being used nor anything but the K-55's.

I'd just take the good old K-55, set the squelch for ~81 mph, and then just kick back and wait... when I get the tone, identify the vehicle and obtain a tracking history, then pull out and have a conversation w/the speeder. If I can't observe them for long enough to make a 100% positive I.D., just go back to sleep waiting for a call or excessive speeder again.

I was wondering are you a NJ Trooper? by reading your reply you sound like one, or retired. Also, if you are why have radar detectors of your own?

My best customers are other cops!
Elvis has been here on the forum for over a year under a different user name and we have a trooper from VA, couple of motors from Texas, and an officer from CO

Until they retire, they will never let you know that they are really cops, and even then they may be hush...

I used to commute from PA to linden, nj everyday until just recently. Ive encountered laser quite often along the whole stretch of I78 until around hillside where there are express and local lanes. So beware. I can pretty much tell u where they are along all of I-78. The scariest thing i've seen was past watchung on I-78. That stretch of highway is free from places for cops to hide. So i would always cruise until i seen a trooper pulling laser once from the shoulder. I287 North of I78 if seen laser and very seldom have seen laser south of I78 on 287.

Was coming on NJ turnpike from RT3 and got nailed bad with laser 93 in a 55. My lucky day since the trooper didn't ticket me. I've always had good experiences with trooper. thanks god. But laser is all over north jersey. South jersey i don't travel to often so i don't know.

I have personally never been hit by Laser from a Local NJ PD.

As far as NJ SP. YES! They have and use Laser and X band. A LOT! IO A LOT!

If you don't have a Rabbit and you are not a bobble head driving you are in for it.

Even if you are good at it, they are sometimes better.

NJ SP are highly trained and efficient in the use of Radar and Laser as well as hiding.

Be careful and don't drive like an idiot on this state's highways.
