Im from Long island, Nassau county, do you think i should have my POP enabled or disabled?
That is totally up to you. You might want to try using it turned on and then try it w/ it off to see what you prefer.
Thing is I know laser is used in NY a lot, but basically what im trying to ask is it going to even help? Cause once your hit your hit... Can pop detect lasers being shot at other cars?
5:1,
you need to read up on the basics of radar detectors and radar/laser guns.

POP is a form of quick-pulse radar (in layman's terms). It is NOT laser.
The high-end detectors when mounted high enough on the windshield give you the best chance of alerting you to laser being shot at the car(s) in front of you.
go to either Escorts or Valentine's website and read up on all their basic information on radar and laser guns.
I would leave all bands on. you cut off x-band, you are asking for trouble.[/quote]
Can you confirm any instance of POP being enabled and actually used (not just use of a POP-capable gun)? There are many here that say it never is and disable it on their detectors. Confirmation that it is in fact used would be very valuable.Originally Posted by NY946
That's exactly what I'd like to know. It seems that everybody recommends turning POP off, but if I live in a POP area aren't I just leaving myself vulnerable to getting tagged? I don't know if I should just live with the false alarms. After a while I just might end up ignoring it and getting tagged anyway.Originally Posted by jwardell
Thanks. I see the LEOs pacing all the time. Especially on the NJ side. Since the PIP has their own police station they run that strip.Originally Posted by KaPro

I haven't had an x hit in about 5 years on LI.
Pop or Not ? With Sti pop enabled.
On hy 87 , north of Albany , the trooper was behind me @ 1/2 mile , suddendly my Sti launched a very short blip ... so fast I cn't remeber if it showed POP ...I was 15 mph over, I braked a bit ... he came fast then passed me ...like thinking not a big fish enough to ticket...
By the way , a suggestion to Bell : what about a small memory of the last 5 alerts ....
