Default CA LIDAR - boys with toys

Watch yourself on Hwy 99 in Central California. CHP has lots of new LIDAR out there - or so it seems. Watch your speed (for safety if noting else) at overpasses (esp looking down on you from the same direction on-ramps), the rare dip / turn in the road. It looks about half on Moto units and half in cruisers. Anyway.... LIDAR seems to be the up and comming.

Specify some specific areas such as Fresno, Merced, etc? You could even some some specific cross streets or overpasses.

Let me tell you something, a lot of this "lidar use" in the central valley is hype. The CHP owns the technology but they don't actively use it. I have only seen the Fresno division using their 5 lidar guns on two different occasions. There was also a 6 month lapse between both of the occasions.

Compared to states like Michigan, CA in general pursues speed enforcement very passively.

I've been all round Fresno and south. In Fresno look out at Clinton St., Olive (CHP HQ right off the ramp anyway), and most of downtown. I saw a CHP with LIDAR south of Selma in the shadows of an overpass watching southbound traffic. Obvious LIDAR - had driver door open and was propped up on door frame trying to sight the LIDAR.
I've seen moto unit guy at about McKinley or Belmont literally leaning over the on-ramp with a LIDAR catchin on-coming (but same direction)traffic several days in a row.
Oh, and if you drive on 41 north of downtown Fresno, say hi to all the cops there.

They are shooting Lidar (the CHP) in Delhi (Merced County) on the first overpass northbound from Livingston. Out of the 10 times or so I've seen 'em shooting there, all have been shooting the Southbound drivers. It seems as if they are mostly targeting Semi-truckers. Usually one shooter and 2-4 chasers. They are using the LTI Ultralyte.
Merced PD is also starting to use Lidar, now using the Pro Laser III in town.

These posts are quite entertaining. The speculation and lack of fact is most humorous

Most likely a lie..........but maybe he's just looking for information on easy prey?

What is the speculation you speak of? Please elaborate?

By the way, the CHP appears to be patrolling Freeway 180 with lidar on and off during the mid afternoon. It is generally a motorcycle working alone.

I think you're being a little paranoid Phil I certainly don't need to search on the internet for information on easy prey. All I have to do is drive out of my office parking lot. The speculation I speak of is all the posts I have read speculating the number of LIDAR units certain CHP areas have. How and when they are being deployed and what sort of vehicles Officers are targeting. Stay Safe and Happy Motoring
