Last saturday morning I was driving from 55 north bound to 22 west going towards Garden Grove. I was hit with I/O K band from a Sheriff behind me.
Was I mistaken with a false K band? Or do they use K band as well?

I don't know about the sheriff's specifically, but K band is used all over the place in that area ... Orange PD & Santa Ana PD both use it.

Wow, I tought they only use Ka band and laser in the O.C. I need to pay more attention.
Thanks!
I thought it was only KA in Socal too, I have never seen K, I'll have to watch out for that now. Too much laser is used here![]()
If encountering a CHP will you have either Stalker Ka (34.7)or lidar (Pro laser III or LTI ultralyte).
As for local departments, anything goes. They could be running, k, ka, or lidar (and of any brand) dependong on what their department fancies.
There are also rare and controversial sightings of CHP using k band or other Ka brand radars such as Kustom or MPH. I think most people refute these though.
As always, beware of pacing as its not detectable![]()
Sorry to confuse you guys.
I passed by the same area today and K band was going off the same exact way in the same location. There were no leos present.
It must be another false alarm.
It's the same thing that is all over the 101 heading out to Santa Barbara I bet. Instant K band hits out of nowhere over and over... it looks like it is the call boxes with the solar panels on them. I get about 20 false alarms or more on some freeways in Cali... so annoying. it's all K band.... so last time I turned K off as only KA and L with the CHP.
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you guys know that I found the source of this false alert. It is on Garden Grove Blvd just west of the Haster exit. It is one of those speed signs that is mounted above the road. These bad boys are very powerful for some reason. I don't think that it's only because of the positioning, but I could be wrong. I have one of these types in my area that I get almost 2.5 miles detection range against.
I get these too every time I head south to LA. They are mounted every so often on call boxes, and you can see a white form of a radar. I tried locking these out with my 9500i but it locks them out inconsistently. I think they are sigalert systems or some traffic monitoring.Originally Posted by lak
