Default K Band Photo Radar in AZ

Hey guys, Arizona just launched the first state wide photo enforcement program. They are using mobile units armed with K Band radar, and fixed speed cameras. The K Band is weak but easily found with a good detector. You will need GPS to remember the fixed sites. The program is starting with three vans and will grow to 40 vans on all state highways. If anyone spots a camera or van, let me know where. Most likely, you will see them in the PHX area first.

Yeah it seems the Scottsdale vans are easy to pick up, followed by the DPS and last and least able to pick up are the Paradise Valley Photo Radar vans. Those suckers park right behind big APS powerboxes completely blind to oncoming traffic until you are 15 feet away. Their radar is also weak, like a 1-2 second advance notice.

I am desperately waiting for the Bel update for the fixed cam location since the Phoenix area freeways have installed about 20 new cams in the last 2 weeks.

In addition to the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley vans, DPS has had a handful of vans for many months. The recently announced 40 vans is in addition to that. Maybe the earlier vans (many of them Dodge Durangos) were a pilot program, but I've seen them a few times.

A couple of times on US60 East of Apache Junction, but before the Renaissance Fair area.

There's been a van on the 51 hanging out near Bethany Home/Glendale exits for a number of weeks now. This morning it was on the Northbound lanes (just across from one of the new mounting points for the fixed cameras). But at night, he's often been watching the Southbound lanes after dark just South of Glendale.

My Vector 955 picks up the K-band and gets a strong signal, but I typically get the warning with just a few seconds to spare. I'm wondering if the radar signal is pointed more across traffic at a fixed angle then calculates for cosine instead of pointing it straight up the roadway.

It is just getting out of control...

I wonder what happens if there are multiple cars in multiple lanes in the same pic? At least the fixed cam knows what lane is speeding by the ground sensors in each lane.
Ill be they toss those pics out.
