I was wondering how prevalent laser usage is in PA?

At present, LIDAR is not being used in PA. PennDOT has published a list of approved units and calibration standards/stations but PSP is not using it so far.
I highly doubt you're going to stop its usage, the important thing to stop is local getting access to radar and LIDAR. Your you representative and explain what locals would only abuse the use of radar and LIDAR like other states which use these tools to bring in more revenue not improve safety, If safety is the real concern then police should be writing tickets for thinks like lane changing and following too close and other actives that cause more accidents.
Wait wait wait...Has laser has been approved for PSP use? I thought it was just K that was permitted, and the most recent bill to introduce laser had died?

It is being tested that is for sure, the reason the bill died for LIDAR and Moving Radar is it also allowed Local to have access to this technology as well and the Fine Government of PA still have not been compelled to grant the locals this privilege. Since the tied them both together the PSP use of LIDAR got killed as well.
Laser was illegally used in Pittsburgh last year, over 600 tickets were illegally issued. Fines were refunded. PA is the only state that doesnt allow locals to use radar. I am sure that will change at some point.
So Maestro, you see the PSP getting laser soon then? Has there been another law proposed in the legislature? What about Ka?
I thought I'd heard that PSP was actually against locals getting radar? I'm going to write my local reps a letter about not giving the locals radar like you suggested. I really think that locals with radar is a bad idea...in my area, the township hires one or two police officers with the stated purpose of "traffic enforcement" on some of the rural roads around here (PA RT 52 and PA RT 926). If they actually got radar/LIDAR, there's no doubt in my mind they'd run one giant speed trap 24/7, since they don't really have anything else to do.
We occasionally get PSP out in my area too, but their barracks is in Media, and usually when they make the drive they're patrolling around for aggressive drivers, not running stationary radar.

The legislative session for this year is over, and there was nothing done regarding local access to RADAR. The next session starts in January or February, but AFAIK there are no pending bills on the matter to even start the discussion process. So Maestro, you see the PSP getting laser soon then? There have been reports of Ka usage by PSP in the Philly area. Do a search of the forum for the posts.
