    Default Question about local Speedtrap

I live in Laureldale and the cops keep putting up En-Radd speedtraps where they have one cop writing the tickets and a local boardmember wearing a green vest go out into the middle of street an points and yells at peaple to pull over,This seems dangerous,is it legal,is this person allowed to pull peaple over and if he gets hit by car and sues will my taxes go up?

They got the En-Radd device about two weeks ago and have written hundreds of tickets, they have three to five cars pulled over at a time for hours, hideing the trap on the downside of mountain,my son got caught in it and he said they have stacks of tickets pre-written then just fill in blanks, with all this revenue why do my property taxes keep going up

It's a big country. Can you narrow that down for us?

Legal? I'm sure of it. Smart? Definitely not. Neither is running out in front of fleeing cars to throw down spike strips, but they're going to still do it.

I'm assuming you are talking about Laurledale, PA. Enradd is definitely legal and it's use is becoming widespread in PA. The only "legal" question I would have is whether or not a boardmember is authorised to wave violators over? Also sounds like a flagrant speedtrap whose only purpose is to raise funds for the municipality. Especially if your son saw a pre written stack of traffic tickets.

Okay, I don't think I am clear on what is happening here. What or whom are you calling a "boardmember"? Do you mean a member of this forum?

    Is there any other kind?

I highly doubt this one. Every place I have ever worked, numbered ticket books were issued to a specific officer. They're not loose forms that are just printed up in stacks to grab from. And when you tear one out of the book, it's three to five copies, which are a pain to keep up with. They might have a stack of extra books sitting there, but pre-written tickets is a little farfetched. The only thing you could pre-write is the address, and that's not exactly saving a lot of time.

^^^ Did you read the post? The OP states that a boardmember steps in the street and yells and waves people over. It is probably a township boardmember and I do question the legality of a boardmember waving violators over. Do you know if it's legal or not?

There are justifiable speedtraps such as school zones and work zones. These are speedtraps which I would like to think, are used to enforce safety not merely to make money.

Again, the OP is the one who wrote about his son seeing the stack of pre written tickets. I am well aware of the fact that tickets come in books in numerical sequence issued to individual officers.
